dont get falken 512s.

i put those on when i bought the car, they were grippy but they didnt last 10,000 miles. they were stopped production by falken because of premature wear. the 912 is the replacement.

The reason I want narrow tires is because I need to run a stretched rear tire in order to use 16x8ET-8 wheels. I'm going to have to roll the fenders so I need to have a reasonably small tire.

Now I'm leaning towards using a Hankook Ventus R-S2 205/45R16.

I want a 45 series sidewall so my front valence doesnt scrape on all sorts of stuff. Plus, I don't want the car to look like a VW...

Yeah 944CS says they are very good tires for the money. Only 96$ so I'm down with that. Does anyone know if they have a lip protector? Or how well they will stretch?

we need pics of these wheels to help you more.

i doubt a 205 tire will fit an 8" rim. it might, but i wouldnt want to. besides it would looks silly.

It will fit... Its not like its a 205 on a 9 inch.

I'm at school now so the only pictures I can get are from the guy I bought the wheels from. I dont have any pics of the wheels on the car either.

Wow that's some serious rear offset but my God those are beautiful wheels. Nice score. How close is the fit now with those tires?

Thanks for the compliment. That's why I really want to try and make them work with a stretched tire. Like I said before, the rear size is 16x8ET-8 the front is 16x7ET21.

With the rear spacer off, the tire sticks out around 1.25". So I figure rolling the fenders can get me about .75" if I'm lucky and the smaller tire should pick up the rest. What do you guys think??

One thing I'm not happy about is that there will be some poke. That's only noticeable looking at it from the back or front though. Plus, it's gonna be worth it with these wheels.

That's how a 205/40 looks on an 16x8 so a 205/45 wont be all that VW...

If the rim is poking, then no amount of stretch will fix that. And any stretch is not a good look. They are nice looking rims - I hope you can find a solution, but I don't think you're going to be able to get those mounted up in the current configuration.

Bottomline is the offset is just not right for the car. No level of massaging is going to solve it. Sell the wheels.

Is this a late or early offset car? if the wheel won't fit inside the wheel well, don't do it. On an early car, it MAY just barely fit, and if you roll the fender, it may be ok. There is no way in hell thats going to fly on a late car though.

For the cold hard truth, though, see Joe's post above.

I realize they are a really close call but they are too cool in my eyes to just give up all hope. I'm going to continue to try and make them fit.

Wish me luck...

Not to be discourging but if the tire/wheel sticks out 1-1/2" now you need a wide body kit or body work; a rolled fender will never be enough. The first time the car hits some serious dips at high speed you will cut the tire right off the rim. Mine never rubbed at the top, more like 10 and 2 o'clock. I'm assuming your car is early offset?
