I am not sure, but I don't think teflon tape is the thing to use, it could clog injectors if it got gummed up. I would check out the threads on the hose when you take it out. Maybe a thread sealant of some sort would work, not sure, anyone else?

Question

Txhedg,
I'm looking to replace the hose off the intercooler pipe (the braided one in your pic).
Do you remember what size hose it is?
Was this also purchased from Paragon?
Thanks
John

You don't need to put anything on the threads. It is made to seal itself when you tighten the nut down like a plumbing fitting. Sorry I don't have the manuals to tell you what to torque it to.

well i installed the new hose last night... in the process of taking the old one off a crack appeared through which i could see the inside of the pipe! very scary.

for those of you replacing yours: it's a 19mm nut you have to loosen (1mm bigger than what's included in most craftsman tool sets; i had to go buy a wrench).

be prepared to do some vacuum plumbing if you haven't already replaced your vacuum lines. that crappy Y connection to the dampner and BOV broke when i tried to take a line out of it.

I didn't use any sealants and just cranked it until it was somewhere between "tight" and "really tight". i haven't seen any leaks yet.

oh yeah, and pulling the dme relay kills the engine right way; not very effective for depressurizing fuel system. Pull the fuel pump fuse instead; i beleive it was #34 on my turbo.

JVC -

I cant remember what exact size that was I used.....I just pulled off the old line, and measured the outside diameter of the connection barb on the pipe. I then used that to figure out what size ID SS hose I needed (e.g. -10 hose is 9/16" ID). IIRC, the ID info is on the paragon performance site

Also, when buying the SS hose, get a bit more than you think you will need because sometimes you need a bit more flexibility in routing to avoid kinking the hose when you bend it.

Hope that helps

When jax or someone begins to take it all apart, could you guys post the diameter of the inside of the crimps so we can get appropriate hoses/clamps thanks,

jason

My hoses should arrive tomorrow - I'll post the sizes if they do.

I don't have exactly what you want but the hose we need has around a 3/8 ID which would be -06 hose at Paragon. That hose has an OD of 35/64 but that might vary with different brand and type. Here is two pics of the fitting to the dampener with the crimp and hose cut off to show the diameter of the fitting.

I hope this answers your question.

thanks for the pics post, so, then all the other 3 connections (to the FPR and the 2 by the shock tower) in the system have 3/8" barb fittings like the one pictured? Nice clean job cutting off the fitting, did you use a dremel tool?

thanks again,

Jason

Hello
The sizes needed are 5/16 inch I.D. from the FPR to the shock tower fitting. 3/8 inch I.D. from the damper to the shock tower fitting. Get high pressure fuel injection hose NOT regular fuel line. Good luck!

Jason I don't know how eager you are to do this if you want to wait a little I will tell you what works for me. I have to talk to somebody at Paragon to see if they can supply me with fittings to thread onto the fuel rail and dampener and if they are clueless as I suspect they will be it will probably take me two shipments to get it right. The fitting I took a pic of for you came from a junk car so I don't really know what the ones by the shock towers look like but here is one of the regulator.

Thanks Tom for the information. I am getting SS Braided lines I plan to make sure they can handle the pressure for our cars. I plan on ordering one size because the way the hoses are sized they have 7/32, 11/32 and 7/16. Since the 11/32 is right inbetween the sizes you stated I think it will work fine. I think txhedg used the same size for both.

Tom, I am interested in what you do. I will probably hold off for like a week or so. I was also planning on getting that 11/32 middle sized -06 hose from paragonperf as well as their fire sleeving, including a small sleeve for the short rubber line that started this thread (I am gonna have a new one on tuesday).

As for the clamps, I was gonna go non-cosmetic and get some band clamps from www.bakerprecision.com as they have a large selection and based on browsing their website the prices are good. They are about 1/2 of the paragonperf. prices on the hose, I wonder why... Baker also has fire sleeving, but i like the red stuff that paragonperf offers. Baker sells all those fittings and stuff too.

Oh also Jason to get the crimp connectors off I just cut across the crimp connector with a dremel and split it off. It is on just like a hose clamp but it gets crimped on I know it looked like it was part of the fitting to me at first. I also just got off of the phone with Paragon and as I expected they were clueless as to the thread size so I ordered something for my fuel pressure sender that has threads on like some of the connectors on their site. So if that threads on then I will get more of them to thread onto the rail and dampener other wise I will have to see if I can cut that little hose up and use the fittings from that.

Good site Jason I just called back Paragon and canceled my order except for my adapter for my pressure sender. I will order my stuff from bakerprecision. I think I am going to start a topic to see if anybody knows what thread size is on the dampener. I want nice ends on mine.

sometimes hardwares stores that have lots of nuts/bolts can measure thread pitch and tell you what to get.

I assume that the hose is all the same for the most part, what length did you order? can you cut it or do they need to (ie, can I order one long piece or do I need to order 2 short ones)? Are you planning on using any clamps?

Jason
