Question Repositioning K&N Cone?

Is it possible to reposition my K&N as seen below without purchasing a different kind of intake? By this I basically mean can I buy any kind of extensions to position the filter where it would be in a MAP or MAF setup, without actually ordering one of these products? At the time I could not afford one of these setups, but I am aware of how poor of a position this is for my filter. Any suggesstions?

For big bucks you could, Kokeln sells something...but it also requires upgraded Intercooler pipes.

hey badass - i've got a similat setup at the moment, and I'm thinking of trying to fabricate a custom pipe to repostition the K&N behind the headlight.

The problem is the AFM, it is big and chunky, and gets in the way. I'd have to get rid of the J-pipe and make a really really short section of pipe between the turbo and the AFM.

We'll see what happens as my car is still on the hoist until monday. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Rich do a search for 944S2Nut #9202 posts and see what he did for his K&N on a S2

Doing that would be very difficult considering the intercooler is located under the front nose. On the S2, that is where they hide the airbox.

It can be done. Look at this:

<img src="http://www.p-caronline.com/stuttgart/RPG951S/Revised_Intake2.jpg" alt=" - " />

Would require some reworked parts:
J-Pipe (Intake to Turbo)
IC to Throttle Body Pipe
Blow Off Vavle/Pipe

Plus whatever else.
This would be a very neat project, combine a 'bolt-on' AFM relocation kit with this: (Heat shield for the Intake)
<img src="http://www.lindseyracing.com/pics/maftrap1.jpg" alt=" - " />

And you would REALLY have something.
Hmmmm......

Yeah but the idea is to keep it cheap. Like Raagi's first photo of the red car, but with ABS or other cheap piping. Also not only does the AFM have to clear the turbo intake, but also the headlight rotating mechanism.

If I have to get out the TIG then so be it. My dad can help me learn it, he's good with it. I'm more worried about making correct fittings for the BOV.

Rich,

When you say ABS I assume thats some sort of plastic? You definetely dont want to use plastic for the intercooler pipes IMO...15-18psi of boost combined with the vibrations will do a number on those joints I think...

On the intake itself, its also sketchy...there's a lot of heat to be dealt with...

Don't forget you'll need to have connections on the intake pipe for the idle stabilizer and CBV (blow off valve)...

I thought about this for a while and I decided the gains weren't worth it and just left the stock intake with the stock filter.

Nope, still waiting on parts. Whenever they arrive I plan to have it done in one or two days. I am soooooooo impatient.

RPG951S - those are some very good ideas, however how much are parts for such a setup?

Is there a way I could take advantage of the fact that I have no pop-up headlights?
