Wow!! Found a replacement right quick!!! Looks very nice Is it a 951 or another S2? Your accident turned my stomach, glad you were OK and that I don't have to drive my S2 in the snow no more.

Cheers,

The white one is '90 951 the black is '88 951.
Both cars are just fine.Perhaps you are mixing us to Anders from Sweden who totaled his S2 last friday.

Oh no, sorry to hear about our neighbourg from Sweden.. Hopefully the guy is ok.
Was the S2 totally wrecked or..

Althought we are basically used to drive on slippery conditions etc. up here in scandinavia, the 944/951/S2 ain't the easiest car to drive at winter time.

But it can be pretty fun..
It's just sometimes things get out of hands..

In Southern Finland, for example here in Helsinki we don't usually have snow on the streets or highways. Well sure we do, but in general we have pretty good driving conditions.

It just that our cars have so much power and torque, you have to be "awake" all the time.

Few days ago I was driving my 951 on a "clear" highway and doing 70 mph or so.
I reached a slower car, and decided to overtake it. I changed down to fourth, and floord it.
A few seconds went, the boost got up, and the rear wheels started to spin, and the cockpit was full of hands...

And I have a set of brand new winter tyres and my 951 has LSD.

A Porsche can be a blast also at winter time, just keep your head together and remember what your drivin' .

BTW, nothing bad happened at that takeover, it was just a good reminder, that I was not drivin an old Citroen..

Question

So, Turbo-Tommy you use your P-car at winter time also. May I ask what tyres do you have (size, make and so on)? I thought it was next to impossible to find a round of decent winter tyres to these cars, so I havn't even tried?

Hi!

When Tommy's sleeping I might join this...

Front: Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1 205/55-16
Rear: Nokian Hakkapeliitta 2 225/50-16

Wheels are Teledials,7&8*16.

I recommend Hakkapeliitta 2's all around,or some studless ones.On my other car I have Q's,they're OK.I used to have Bridgestone Blizzak II's,but they're really awfull! I think that the Factory recommends Dunlop's studless tyres for newer models.

Cheers,Pete

Good morning

yup I'm drivin' all year round.

I had from my ex n/a p-car's rear winter tyres left, Good Year Ultra Grip ( 225/50-16),
and I drove only two months with them, so they were basically "new".

Me and Sami, we went to this tyre shop, and I bought to the front ( 205/55-16) Nokian Hakkapeliitta. All of them are studless.

I also had my old telephone dials left (7&8-16), so naturally I used them.

The problem and surprise came, when I tried to live from the tyre shop.

Car wouldn't move an inch. In a few moments we discovered, that the front brakes were too big, the front wheels didn't have enough space. Go figure. ( My car is -90, so it has these bigger S4 brakes.)

I called to the p-dealership, and asked if I could change the rear wheels to the front and front to the rear.

They said no problem, just don't race with them

So now my car has 225/50 8*16 front,
and 205/55 7*16 in the back.

It looks and feels kinda funny, but at least I can drive it

Yes those Bridgestones are Grap.I don't know do you North Americans have finnish Nokian tyres available.. You should try them, they are really good.
No more salty roads for my 951.It sleeps in my garage now and waits for some service & modifications to be done during this winter.

OK! So Nokia has started making tyres for us people also! Great! Still I'm not so sure about that low profile tyre at winter time in general... What I have experienced is that the lower is the profile, the less is the grip on ice, no matter what tyre...

You have a point there. But you can deal with these kinda tyres. Especially if you don't HAVE to use p-car as your daily drivable car. So if the wheather is really bad, use something else.
I drove 4 winters with my ex n/a and basically no problems what so ever..

But if you are uncertain about it, use 205/55-16 rear as well as in front.
I have 225/50 in the back, and it is a bit wide.

Sign up to the club asap!

We have a good time always when we meet, no matter if it's auto cross, track day etc.
And you meet lots of new porsche-nut men and women..

And you learn to drive your car better, right Sami..
