Default weltmeister strut brace fitment question (Chad?)

I got it some time ago, and Chad is a great dude to deal with

well, I just went outside to finally put it in (felt lazy before), and I just had a question on how did you guys had it set in the engine bay

I'm kind of worried about it being right on top of the brake fluid tank

not sure if I did it right, or does it matter at all? because bar doesn't has any flex to it and I think once it's set, it's set, so I shouldn't be worried

in any case, thanks

if someone has a picture or something of their's I'd apreciate it

it can only go on one way. take the four bolts off one side, slip it on, take the four bolts off the other side, slip it on, insert the middle bar, tighten all bolts. gently close hood to make sure it clears everything.

check the link in my old FS thread. It should have a picture of the motor. i think i had the brace on when i took the pictures. edit, not there. if you need a pic i will take one tomorrow and post it.

Install the center bar with the kink on the passenger side. Use the front-most mounting holes.

ah well see, the mounting points can go on only 1 way

the bar itself (with end links) can be unbolted from them and uh, "moved"

the way it is now - the bend is right @ the brake booster pointing up so as not to hit it, since that's how I thought it's supposed to go on

I need a picture or something so I can explain it better, blah

it looks like the whole thing is length adjustable and it can be unbolted from those tall mounting points and moved to another spot I guess for adjustability/fitment purposes

~~EDIT~~ Tom thanks, looking for the pics now ...

yeah it can only go one way
but it is adjustable

so I'm wondering which way did you guys have the "bend" at? because I did just that: broke it all apart, mounted the mounting points, then put in the bar, and tightened everything up

I'm just wondering which way, or if there is a difference at all, to have that bend; it cleared the hood fine for now, but that bend is pointing upwards right at brake booster reservoir; kind of has me worried a little

It should not ride on the tank. Use the forward mounting holes.

well technically its not on the tank it's hovering about an inch or so above it

now the fuel rail, it's sitting like 1mm taller then it, and I really didn't like that either

I think I may have mounted it backwards

xsboost, thanks, great picture!

yeah I just thought that you might have a pic of an engine bay from back when you first got the car, so I could see how it was mounted, lol

if this site had points I would be at like way past rock bottom

going outside in a few mnts to fix this!

Sorry no pic my friend. If you're still having trouble, go to Weltmeister's site for the installation instructions. They might be of some help as well.

I looked last night quickly and couldn't find anything

well, I went outside and took a look - obviously I had one of the mounting points backwards, so I fixed that, and tightened everything down, and put in the bar itself with bend on passengers side

all is good, kind of

now the bar rests slightly on top of the airbox

I think it would be nice to mention that this is on a 1983 944 N/A

I did it exactly how XSBOOSTS shot showes (and Spidey's), but I think your cars are 951's

I think if on the driver's side I move it to the other "ear" it will clear the airbox without a problem - can I go ahead and do this? or leave it like the pic shows?

obviously there should be no flex so I doubt anything will get damaged, but still

going to weltmeister's site right now as well ...

~~EDIT~~

also, on the bar itself - it's adjustable (those threads etc) - how far are your's out? mine look to be about 1" out on each side, looks a little far, but again, looks same as on XS's picture, no problem there?

thanks

just trying to get ready for a little Euro g2g today at 1pm !

if its hitting your airbox you can extend it out and put it on the rearward ear on the ds- they are meant to mount however you need....clearance on the fuel rail is always an issue- i had a KLA bar on my n/a and it touched the plastic on the fuel rail but just barely.

hahah, thanks Dan/Tom/Steve/Doug/Chad, got it all bolted/mounted in; now it clears everything

on passenger's side I used the ear closest to the front, on driver's side I used the ear that's furthest from the front; cleared everything; the ammount of thread out on the bolts that go into the bar is now about 1/4" - and it's DEAD solid - so I guess if any N/A guys want to do this mod, this is the best way to go

later I'm going for a test drive (actually, when I'll be going to the G2G), so it should be interesting

what can I expect? almost everyone says that the difference is very noticible, so we'll see!

thanks for the help! you guys make it so easy!

maybe one more question, could I get the bar painted red? or too much work, lol, look at me, excited like a little girl, 1st mod on my 944 and I'm so psyched/hyped!
