Post I DROPPED 2 Huge Lawn Chairs On My Hood & Fender (Long Story)

I'll try to keep this as short as possible as I have been know to shed tears about this story several times...

Three weeks ago, I had to take my car out of the garage d/t having a garage sale. I keep the car about 5 minutes down the road @ my mother-in-law's. When I went to take off the cover I lifted my arms up and hit not only my arms but my head on 2 gliding lawn chairs (the kind that 2 people can sit on). You guessed it, they both fell off the hooks from the rafters and landed on my hood. The only good about this was that the cover was still covering the hood by about 50%. This saved the hood for a total repaint in my opinion.

So picture this, me holding/trying to pick up 2 large gliders off of my hood while still not letting them slide down the fender/hood and letting them scrap up the hood by sliding down the rest of the way. Again fortunately the cover was still 1/2 way on and a large portion of one of the chairs was on it. Anyway, I'm still standing there holding these 2 chairs with nobody home to help. They where too heavy to pick them both up together with one hand for each chair so I put the on that was 1/2 way on the cover the rest of the way on the cover. I then picked up the one that did the most damage to the fender and hood and threw it across the garage (I couldn't just lay it down as I was pin'd between my fender and the wall of the garage so it wouldn't have fit) just missing the other side of my car.

Well the chairs survived but the hood and fender had about a 1/2 dollar size dent in them both. The good thing was that it didn't go through the paint nor did it scratch it! Incredible huh!!!

So I'm thinking this is going to be horrible to repair and try to match the paint on my pristine car!

Here's where the dents are (paintshop doctor'd, can you tell :-)

Here's a picture of the garage setup just prior to my nephew & I going to the O'Daniel Porsche Tech Session in May. Notice the (2)hanging lawn chairs indicated in another paintshop doctor'd photo... I'm getting good at these :-) I was in between the wall and the right front fender when the chairs came down.

So I take it to a family friend that owns a local Carstar Collision repair facility in my home town. He's says (after I look'd all over northern IN for a paintless dent removal guy to no avail) "Hey I got a PDR guy that comes every Wednesday... I'll put you down for Wednesday and he'll take both dents out... While I'm at it your car needs a nose job and a polish with some rubbing compound to get some of the oxidation off of the hood". I just stood their whith my hands in my pockets going, "Does this guy know his stuff or what"

Anway I just returned from the shop & the dents are gone. You can not tell that they were even there. Incredible and all for about $75. He had half of the top (sunroof area) buff'd by using a rubbing compound and I couldn't see any oxidation at all and let me tell you it was pretty cloudy on top unless I put Carnuba on it after every wash. He said the whole car will be that shinny when he's done.

All I can say is, I'M A HAPPY MAN!!!!!

Here's a pic of the rock chips on the nose that he was talking about. The guy I bought it from liv'd in the Rocky Mountains. He said the roads where covered with little stones all over and that's where most of the rock chips came from. He said it got to the point where he even hated driving it on the highways because of them.

I'm going on vacation to stay in a cabin in the smoky mountains next week and he said he'd keep the car inside and cover'd until I return. Is this guy great or what. As I'm leaving he say's, you know when you parents and my parents use to hang out together when they where you I use to beat up your older brother all of the time. I paused and said "I knew I liked you for some reasone... I just couldn't pin point it"! We chuckled and I left.

Last but definately not least, the car also needs some stuff that I have neglected to get repaired since I purchased it but have driven it so little my wife has nix'd any money towards repairs until now. Well as if this story can't get any better, she just said ok me to subvert some funds to be used for replacing the rear Koni's, new brakes & a new hod crest. I'm going to try to sneek in some braided brake lines (shhhhhhh).

Again, I'm a HAPPY MAN!!!!!

Have you changed how the chairs hang from the ceiling?

I might look them up next year (I've garaged my car and taken the insurance off for the winter). Got a couple small dings on the 944 and a big dent on the winter beater.

Rough.

My 1st RX-7 had a dent in one of the headlight covers. The orginal owner had been storing stuff up in his garage rafters - then he fell and nailed his hand on the car on his way down to the concrete. That had to suck. He was laughing about it when he told me... but he absent-mindedly rubbed his wrist remembering the pain.
