there was an article in EXCELLENCE magazine about a gentleman who used a thicker headgasket to turbocharge his 968. I believe he was running about 5 pounds of boost. I'll look around to see if I still have it. ken

I would go with the shorter rod route......

You would be messin with the squish area but this is a tried and trued method of lowering comp.....

I have a set of stock S2 pistons in my garage, I will look at them tommorow to tell you how much material is on the top of the piston.......

Also the s2 pistons are cast (very nice but cast)

Mahle motorsports was supposed to be makin a 3.0 s2/968 piston in various comp's but i would not count on that.......

If a multiy layer head gasket is avalible I could waterjet a copper .060 plate to be placed inside the layer of the head gasket........

I know a gentelmen that does this for neons and he runs 20psi boost with a t04 on a stock neon bottom end

Also I could just make a thick copper unit and you could just run that.....V-8 guys have doin this forever!! It would run you about 150.00
let me know if your interested......

Fishey .. do some more research on the s2 piston .. They are a nice cast piston ... but none the less cast.
Pauter has shorter rods for this application that will do the trick .. it is just not the preferred method to reduce compression as it changes the shape of the combustion chamber and the "squish" area.
I had shorter Pauter rods and 968 pistons on my S2 turbo race motor. Tons of power and TQ .. until I cracked a cylinder. Poor tuning with the TEC II.
I was also running 1 bar of boost at 9.5 compression ratio. (the shorter rods get u to 9.5 static compression ratio).

You can go here to see a video of an S2 we converted. Its stock bottom for now (we have the shorter Pauter Rods, and the car is getting dropped off this weekend for a compression reduction), running stock compression. Its bee driven pretty hard for the past few months with no issues, infact, after 15K miles or so, the only thing I have done to the car is brake changes, and a few new bolts in the Axles.

The video is a series of runs that we edited back to back. Maybe 8 runs or so.

Hey John, I just watched the vid of the S2 Turbo on the dyno. That was impressive. What kind of numbers did it put down?

I believe it was in the 290's...rear wheel...I'm not posotive without looking up the sheet. It should say on the site, I'll double check.

When I install the rods, we will be cranking the boost over 7psi for sure. I would like to see a safe 340 at the wheels, safe meaning, drive it all day, having fun, and lasting...as it has been. I doubt we will do any "Peak" hp runs to bragg about.

Take Care Pete.

I don't see any S2 videos on the site. Also, is the S2 a kit or is it a custom project like the 968?

Thanks

I am currently running a 968 turbo engine on my car. It was done at Heimrath Porsche in Toronto and has been running without a hitch for the last 6 yrs. They did source out some of the parts from powerhaus.
They used carillo 2mm shorter rods, shaved and dished pistons like PH and slapped a 2 valve 2.7 NA head.
This car is a 968 turbo S replica, so that is very close to the setup. I can run 1 bar boost all day long and the car is a hoot to drive.
You can send 968 pistons to PH and they will modify them for you. You can either buy their "GTR" rods or buy carillo 86mm rods.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Lumbergs

Its there. Here is the link. Its on the products section under conversions.

No, its not a kit, we do the work inhouse.
