UPS Rant - High Fees
Ordered a $60 piece from Lindsey Racing. Shipped via UPS.
Not only do I have to pay for shipping (15, whatever, dollars) I get charged a $42 brokerage fee!
What a ripoff!

I don't think it's a Lindsey thing, I think it's a UPS thing. Google “ups brokerage fees”
Vendors can help though: Give us the option to ship via USPS, and avoid the outrageous charges!!

Make sure you can get something within the US first of you can. The "Brokerage" is a registered agent for the US Customs that handle goods for specific shippers.

Just did a google search. That fee is the customs fee for importing goods. That is a flat charge for all items large or small.

UPS, like all the other shippers, use a local (Canadian) broker to determine how much in Canadian duties and taxes to charge you on goods you import. The fee includes your local duties and taxes plus the broker fee.
This is nothing unusual and not a fault of Linsey or UPS, it's just one of the pitfalls of importing stuff.

This has been an ongoing issue for YEARS.
There was recently a class action lawsuit in motion against UPS for gouging on brokerage fees.
I had USPS (which turns into Purolator when it gets to Canada) ship $750 worth of goods from Sunset Porsche, and I only paid, like, $45 something dollars.
That same month, AIR shipped me a splitter via UPS, worth $200, yet the customs and brokerage fees came up to $90!!!!!!!!!!
UPS can go **** themselves.

If the supplier is willing to mark the value at $50 or less and mark the customs form as 'Gift', then no brokerage, customs or duties are paid.

I insist on USPS when shipping from the US to Canada. I found out about the high UPS brokerage fees the hard way too! :-( Luckily Paragon offers this option.
