Default Weird electrical Issue - Help!

The Fest is inching closer, and there's this little tick that keeps bugging me.

Inexplicably, at random times, with random intervals, my gauges will suddenly start going ****ing crazy -- whether I'm doing 35 on a town drag or 75 on the highway -- speed seems irrelevant. The tach bounces hysterically, the mpg gauge has an epileptic seizure, the voltage drops to about 11 and the temperature gauge SHOOTS up into the red.

The AC also kicks on, even if I'm not running the cabin fans.

Strangely enough, the fuel gauge and the speedo remain, from what I can tell, largely unaffected.

YES, I've cleaned my damn grounds! That was the first thing I did, and I have no clue what's causing this!

One thing I've found that fixes it 4/5 times is this: If I can stay in 3rd or 4th gear and slow down to a crawl -- get the revs to about 800 rpms or lower (in other words, get really close to stalling without actually stalling) it seems to shake things back into place.

This leads me to believe something is physically not connected properly, but I really don't know what the hell's causing it. A wire short? A dying battery? I've used the search button folks, and haven't found anything like this. ANY help is much appreciated!

i had a similar problem on a 924 i had 10+ years ago

it turns out that there was a loose wire in the fuse panel that would periodically ground out and kill the engine.

it maybe worth looking around at the back side of your fuse panel

by the back side do you mean the side closest to the driver's side cabin or like from a top-down view, as in underneath all the fuses?

Because now that you mention that, the panel rocks back and forth slightly.

i mean the side all the wires go into the board. the opposite side from the fuses and relays

my car had been a victim of a shade tree mechanic, that probably why we got such a good deal

ah. In that case, I have something to investigate -- i think one of the bolts that secures the fuse panel is loose, because it pivots from the lefthand side a bit -- perhaps something else has worked its way free as well. I will check this out especially before going on the track!
