Default 17in Borbet Wheels on eBay

No affiliation - I have been watching this auction for some time, starting bid is $300 for the set (4) and no bids, ends tomorrow.

These are the classic and original German made Borbet type A wheels. 8.5 x 17F and 10 x 17R offset for the 80's 911 widebody, so I think they are +35F, +16R. No idea of the weight. They might fit an early offset with some spacing though I don't know.

I think they look retro cool, maybe someone with ps skills can post them on a 944. I won't be buying them so I thought I would share. GK

They might just fit an early offset 944, so up to and including 86. Not an option for 87 on. Need someone with better wheel knowledge to chirp in here + someone please photoshop them on a 944, my ps attempts look like they were done with an etch-a-sketch.

They will fit an early offset 944/951 (up thru and including MY86 models).

They were cool wheels in their day. Now I think they look really dated. If you could get some stimulated sheepkin covers for your seats, and a hard-mounted car phone, you could complete the whole 80's look for the car.

Honestly, I look at those wheels and think of the el-cheapo 5-spoke American Eagle wheels you can find at your discount auto store. I don't particularily care for them. Also, I've found Borbets (from my limited research) to be fairly heavy, all things considered. That doesn't mean those will be, but if I had to guess, I'd assume they are.

BB.

They won't fit if the offset is 16. The early offset for our cars is 23, so they'd stick out from the fenders a bit. You could probably get them to fit if you rolled the fenders some. The 35 offset would need a 12mm spacer to bring it out to the wheel well.

Are you sure Michelle. The stock Fuchs wheels on my 86na are:

Front: 7 x 15, 23 offset
Rear: 8 x 15, 10.6 offset

I could be completly wrong, but doesn't that mean that a wheel with a rear offset of 16 would need a 6mm or 1/4in spacer to fit at the back and therefore these would fit.

They look cool standing alone. And I think on a 911/930 they would look cool. But I've seen them on a black 944 and it looked bad IMHO. But $300 for a set of 4 brand new wheels is pretty good.

I agree with BB here in that they look very dated and they are heavy as heck. I have a set on my 88 735i in chrome and I learned to live with them. The spokes are very thick.

They will fit.

I have 9" wide 930 Fuchs on the rear of my bastard 85.5/86 car that have an offset of 10. And I have a 7mm spacer on the hub and they still don't rub the inside of the fender with 245 tires on there.

I think there is a group buy for sheepskin covers... might want do do a search to find the thread.
