Post Anyone else have bad dealings w/ Turby

Just curious, it could have been an isolated incident as I'm sure others have had good dealings w/ him. Just curious if any other bad experiences. Sorry to start this thread, but he was just a real jerk. Basically said "tough luck". I even purchased a compete 968 rear hatch from Joseph Belluchi(SP) from N.Y., it was dropped on the corner and the hatch was shipped back w/o me even looking at it. I'm out a $1000 on that one, this deal w/ Morgan Kipper was only for around $400-500. It obviously not the $$$, but it pisses me off more by his attitude.

I didn't mean for this to be switched around to J.B. but I bought a complete rear 968 hatch from him, I arranged shipping through USF Dugan(truck freight) because our business has a 60% discount. Anyways, as always I requested that things be packed very well(especially a glass/fiberglass rear hatch). Well to make a long story short. The truck came in (I wasn't there), the guy tips the box and you can hear the sound of "gravel" in the box sliding around. AKA: glass breakage. Well, the guys at the office had the truck take it back. The trucking company points the finger to Joseph for a poor packing job, and even send the box back to him and he says everything was toasted. I never saw it so I don't know. Obviously Joseph points the finger at the trucking company because it looks like the box is dropped on a corner. Anyways, no big deal since I insured it right? Yeah I insured it for $1K, guess by clause #blsj, by-line $@1iioo, section 2 bla bla bla, they give you $.50 a pound for damaged goods. Yeah whoohoo, I insured it for $1000, but they'll give me $5.00. Point of story is don't trust someone to package something "fragile" unless you really know them or if they've done it in the past w/o problems. I've shipped over 8 rear 944 hatches w/o a single probably, all of them only costing $150-$250 each since I'm a cool guy like that <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> . I buy one for almost a grand and I get screwed. One day I will have a 968 hatch on my 951, so far the persuit has costed me $1,500 with nothing to show for it. Okay I'm getting pissy and I think I've wrote a book. See ya.

Oh BTW: thanks for the private mail guys, I have more on-line buddies than I thought! Great community!

Oh and BTW, I did agree to help with the cost of the repair until you demanded I pay for a repaint too eventhough you were going to repaint it anyway. You screwed yourself by threating me like a child.

YEah I have to say I can't really follow what's going on here. Has someone bought 3 rear hatches or sold them. I don't know. They going to or from Turby.

All I can say is that I bought something off Turby (some used wires) I doubt he made any money off them, and if I recall correctly he shipped them to me and said send a check whenever. To me that's above and beyond.

As to insurance. The insurance/shipping company is screwing you. Boss went through a similar thing. He packed the boxes and left them open for the movers to seal. Company lost them he tried to collect the insurance, company said since the movers didn't pack it they wouldn't cover them. My boss's point was "Fine, then give me the money back that I paid for the insurance (since they were un-insurable to begin with they shouldn't have charged to insure them)" They wouldn't do that either.

Fact of the matter is that the first thing every company does with any insurance claim is to say "No, were not going to pay" in the hopes you will drop it/ You have to fight for it. Why would they take an insurance for a $1000 value unless tha package wieghed 2000 lbs. Obviously it's bull****.

If you have a UPS shippers account (even if shipped by way of pack n ship) UPS covers up to $100 insurance at no extra cost. When shipping UPS, adding $300 insurance is only $2 more. Thats what I ship the rebuilt steering racks with ($300) even though there is not much UPS can do to break one.

I know that hindsight is 20/20 but as far as the hatch thing.. I would just strap it down to a pallet with some bubble wrap taped to it. If it does break that way it means that something else must have fallen on its "foot print" and thus falls under the fault of the shipper. Also, when they can see what it is they are handling they might be inclined to have a little more care.

UPS has always treated me well and they leave me with the impression that extra insurance or not that they would cover damage. You might have to dig up a few quotes to determine the true value of the piece but you should talk to them.

EDIT: just to be clear , I am not taking sides here because I do not know even half the story. I just thought that information might you guys or others when shipping.

Turby: "screaming threatining to ruin my rep before I even got a chance to say anything on the subject?" Okay, yeah right, whatever turby, I got pissy w/ you after you told be to screw off. That's when I said I'd do exactly what I just did today. I was waiting for you to "resurface" again. Funny, I had a buddy call me today and say "that Kipper guy is selling stuff again", you know the one that you sold a complete Big Red brake package to, the package that was missing a few items. Anyways, when you shipped the spoiler the package was instantly insured for $100, 1/2 the quote. I even said that I was sure I could find someone else to fix it for less, I was just wanting some compensation. Especially since UPS automatically covers the first $100. BTW guys, the link I listed is what Kirby asked for. Kirby "okay send me some pics and get a repair quote" oh and repaint, what do you think they have to do to make it black again after repairing it, clue in.
And as for the reason why it got damaged in shipping is because you didn't pack it right! (did you guys notice the package is absolutely unopened in the pics) Funny, nothing I've sent has ever been damaged in shipping, reason why is because you plan on them beating up the box. Oh, yeah that's right we discussed that before you sent it. Grow a spine bud.

Andrew: "it's not the seller's fault unless they did a terrible job of packing it"

Exactly, that's the problem. Check out the pics, note: the box is exactly how it showed up without anyone tearing at the box. Don't you think the end points of the spoiler should have been protected?

I just sent a 356 speedster windshield to Jerry Haussler from S.W. Missouri to Castro Valley, CA. It will make it there in one piece unharmed, I know so because I packed it well. If it doesn't, I'd consider that I didn't pack it well enough for some unseen reason that I should've planned for, because of that if it's damaged I'll compensate.

"and if I recall correctly he shipped them to me and said send a check whenever. To me that's above and beyond."

Yep, same story. Jim Redmond will owe me a check whenever he gets his brake handle and front swaybar bushing. If he likes them, he'll send the cash, if not, he can send them back. I'm usually pretty easy to deal w/ too. But this guy is a jerk when he knows he's at fault or unwilling to help.

Maybe I'm being a jerk by creating this post, but I don't think it was unwarranted.
