Same Tire vs Staggered Tire
Is there any downside to running the same width tire on all four corners? I know the cars originally came with a staggered set-up, but assuming the ability to adjust shocks and sways is there any reason not to go to a wider wheel all around?

I prefer to run the same size tire on the Frankencar (924S with 968 engine), it allows me to rotate my race tires to maximize lifespan.

The only downside I could possibly think of is rolling resistance in the front and some weight, but this does not outweigh the advantage of more grip, a little better front brake, and the ability to rotate tires in my book.

Of course, this is only true if you are going up to say a 245 from stock size

It depends what you want. Wider tires are slower in a straight line but have better grip in turns. So if you have too much understeer, burning up fronts, and are scrubbing off too much speed in the turns due to weak braking grip then wider front tires could help. It's mostly personal preference for a good handling car that fits your style. Look at suspension setup, weight balance, braking ability, tire temps, and the type of track to decide what you want to do with your tires.
The added benefit to same size on all 4 is it greatly lessens the cost of tires as you can swap them around to get more life out of each set. I think this is the main reason most racers with RWD cars run the same size.

I used to run 225/16 r-compounds all around on my '87 n/a and liked the balance with this setup much more. The cars do have some inherent understeer characteristics at the limit on mostly stock suspensions, especially if you are running the stock 16' sizes of 205/225. Also as Tim mentioned, you can rotate the tires front to back and side to side if the tread pattern permits it. This lets maximize tire life.

And yes, I have moved up from TT to W2W this year and am having a great time. Working hard to get my car ready for Road Atlanta this weekend. It might just come together in time.

My car is classed at the good end of GTS3 Still, I don't think I'd be competitive with the top runners in GTS3 at Nationals this year. I need to find some time to run Mid-O so that I can get my times down. Either that, or Nationals need to move to Barber!
