Post Where is this oil from. Fotos!!!!

Hi guys.

I just fixed a squeaking set of bushings when I decided it was a good time to get the old digital camera out and take some fotos of my oil leak. My wrench just resealed the front end, did the H20 pump, oil cooler and everything. Well the car still runs just below the red, the fans come on sometimes. I just put a new relay, thermo switch. New radiator, bleed it a hundred times and it still runs darn hot. But now I want to consentrat on the oil leak, where do you guys think this is comming from...

I have no clue. And yes I was changing the oil and the fact that the plug is out has nothing to do with the leak comming from the back side of the oil pan.

Well at least she is beautiful

I also lost the cover to my airflow meter, It was loose and I guess it just came off when I was driving it, If you have an extra, I am interested

You know what tickes me off, When I got the car back I didnt realize that the alternator AC belt was put on a differnt tooth with the Ac and Alternator than the Crank, Thoes BASTARDS!!! I fixed it though, no big problem.

Is this leak coming from the oil pan gasket or above?

To tell you the truth I dont know. All I know is it has been getting steadily worse over the past few weeks, and I cant really see up there.

My guess for the leaking oil would be the rear engine seal.

"My guess for the leaking oil would be the rear engine seal. "

How about that hole on the side of the oil-pan with oil dripping out of it?

I was changing the oil at the time, as stated in the first post. But seriously, does anyone have any idea, it is kinda important.

Man! Does that look familiar!! Had the same leak on my early 85 and I thought it was the oil cooler seals or something close. Changed the oil cooler seals and still had the leak. If I remember right it was the gasket in between the cam tower and the head. That got changed when I did the head gasket (oil off the back off the block) and I haven't seen it since. I hope it's something simple.

Just remembered something else. Occasionally before the repair some of the oil would hit the exhuast and smoke a bit. Are you sure it's not the oil pan gasket?

No smoke at all. Im not sure if it is the oil pan gasket, is that somewhat easy to check?

Also what do you guys think about a sound comming from the water pump/thermostat area that sounds like shaking marbles in a tin can?

I would get a good look around the exhuast headers to see if the leak was coming from the cam tower. You might have to wipe off the oil at first and see where it ISN'T. Then trace it back to the source. Maybe run your hand along the oil pan gasket in that area and see how much oil is there. It's very hard to get a good look because of all the stuff in the way. That's one reason I had such a hard time finding the source of the leak. Good luck!
