Post Venturi Tube to Idle Control Valve

I finally stopped denying that winter is here, and started tearing into my car this weekend. I got as far as removing the intake manifold and ICV assembly.

I started inspecting vacuum hoses, clamps, etc., and found that the plastic venturi tube leading to the idle control valve is a two-piece unit (off-white plastic piece and black piece, circled below in red). I found that I was able to simply pull these two pieces apart. Can someone tell me if this is normal? Doesn't seem right.

I believe there was an o-ring on the black section, and I assume this is supposed to maintain a seal under boost?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Ron

Congrats, you found a big vacuum leak. The venturi should not come apart. I found mine in two pieces also and replaced it with a new one. I think it was only $7 at the dealer.

Thanks Tom.

I also noted that several of these hoses were loose (i.e., rotated easily). These larger hoses are otherwise in pretty good shape. I'm hoping with the new venturi, a fresh set of clamps, new vacuum tubes, and replacing the intake manifold gaskets, I'll finally get rid of the "bumps" in my acceleration that I've been chasing.

Thanks
Ron

I noticed my brakes felt a little better with the new venturi. I think the brake booster wasn't getting full vacuum since the venturi was leaking air.

There is a restrictor inside one of the hoses that comes off the venturi, make sure this gets put into the new hose if you replace them. Mine was missing and caused a high idle.

BINGO!!!
Put those "loose" connections under pressure add a little engine heat.....ssssssssss leaky!
Clean/clamp it up and you should be good.
Worked for me anyways!

I think Porsche has a kit (single part#) that has ALL of those hoses under the intake-manifold. Might as well replace them all at once rather than one or another every couple of months. I think Paragon has this kit.

Is one of Paragon's hoses the one where the big crankcase-vent connects to the turbo inlet hose? Porsche makes you buy the whole assembly under the intake manifold.

A missing restrictor kept me busy for a month searching for leaks. One day while browsing thru PET, I found it. If you've got a idle that never goes below 1000-1100rpm, make sure to check for this little bastard. The clamp in the middle of the hose that seems to hold nothing, keeps it in place.

Sauerkraut, how easily did that venturi tube come apart? I gave mine a pretty good tug trying to get the hose off when the two pieces separated (like in your photo). I'm just wondering if I replaced that o-ring I'd be good to go with that part, although if it's 7 bucks I guess it doesn't really matter.

Jason, did your kit include more of the small elbows and tees for the small hard lines?

Ya, Ian even asked me how many I needed. I think I got 7 or 8 elbows and 3 tees.

I forgot that @#$@%^ restrictor. I guess I will be doing that whole intake removal one more time,
DOH!!!!!!

Ron,
If you need some of the 4mm hard line I have some extra if you need it.
Send me a PM.

it was a pretty good tug like you said but im sure it would leak under vacuum. i also found many hoses that could be rotated easily. i guess 15 years of thermal shocks sitting next to the turbo the hoses need tightening, im going to replace'm though. im gonna clean out the ais while im down there any other suggestions??
