Post My 86 n/a got a new garage mate today

Had to travel 10 hours round trip to get it. '87 951, excellent body, fair paint (glossy but some imperfections), less than 80K miles, cloth and leatherette interior dirty but no rips or tears, perfect carpet, everything works except A/C, which blows "cool" not "cold" , complete records, runs smooooth.......$4500

Wow! I would travel 10 hours for that deal (the return trip would be worth it). Congrats.

How did you locate the car? I would love to add a 951 to the stable myself.

Check every classified site on a daily basis and have cash money on hand so you can act quickly. The PO stated he checked values on 87 951's and found they were from $4200 to $4900 for private sellers. I don't know where he checked that or WHAT he was looking at for that matter, but I didn't argue and offered him $4300, he took $4500. Wish I could find them like that all the time!

Looks like a great deal But was there another car behind your when you took the photo? That's a whole bunch of smoke behind the car (at idle too) considering it's been driven for at least 5 hours prior to the picture ...

I'm sure it's great - just kinda curious about the smoke is all ... <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

That is, in fact, 5k less than I paid for my 87 951... almost identical cars from your description. the only difference I can see between your car and mine is , I have bump strips on the sides and you have the factory alarm, I don't. Same color too (DiamanteBleu Metallic). What color is your interior?

If your car is mechanically sound, you got a terrific deal. Enjoy the car. Even if something goes sour, the 5k you saved upfront will pay for a whole lotta mechanical lovin'.

Sweet! Congrats on the purchase!

"Smoke" looks more like a camera strap in front of the lens to me.

The "smoke" is a blur, car was not running at time of photo. Interior is tan and black, cloth and leatherette, a bit dirty hopefully the seats will clean up well. No oil leaks after driving it home yesterday so that's a good thing! Hood insulation is starting to deteriorate a little bit, a few flecks of foam here and there. Belts haven't been done in 2 and a half years though only 10K has been put on the clock, think I'll change them anyway due to age. Seems to be a little heat coming up from the shifer area, though the boot is completely intact, I seem to remember a secondary boot under the leather on an '84 I had, anyone have any info on this?
On the original windowsticker it indicates an upgrade charge for the shocks of several hundred dollars, shocks are yellow, Bilsteins, Boge's, Koni's? Anyone?

Lookin good and Great deal!!

The shifter area does get warm after a long drive...it's normal.

It's very possible that the upgraded shocks have been changed by now...

Check the option codes in the hatch, facing the outside of the car right below the release for the hatch...
