I was going through my closet only to find a box full of HO-scale trains... and let's face it trains are slow, especially compared to my 1:10 RC Opel Astra DTM.
Time for some slot cars. I was just wondering if any of you are into slot cars and see what some of you guys have. I'm already looking at some Ninco and Scalextric cars...

Got a bunch of old Tyco & Afx cars. Bmw csl, Porsche 910, bunch of 911's, every color 917, 512's, Ford Escort Rally in the box, etc.By the way, dude, you have by far the best signature on the boards right now.

We used to get the slot cars out after Christmas for a midwinter racing fix. One thing I had to do to make it playable was hack up the power supply track and connect seperate power supplies for the two lanes. Without this upgrade, your opponent could easily get you to fly off the track by lifting his throttle at the right moment, giving you a blast of current right when you were going into a tight turn. Seperate power supplies fixed this problem.

I accidentally discovered Fly slot cars on eBay about a year or so ago. They have become my automobile collectable of choice. I like them because they are rather well detailed (considerably more so than 1/43 scale models), yet reasonably small.
So far, 3 of the 4 I have are Porsches (not necessarily by design) and 3 of the 4 are quite desirable by collectors.
I have:
SM3 - From the Steve McQueen series, it's the #20 Porsche 917 from the movie "LeMans."
A71 - 1998 GT1, 1st place LeMans
C31 - 1969 Lola T70, 1st place Daytona, driven by Mark Donahue. This was the only race this car ever ran as it and the transporter were stolen on the way back to the Penske shops.
A165 - 1972 Porsche 917/10, 1st place Edmonton Can Am, also driven my Mark Donahue.
Fly makes plenty of Porsche models in very accurate configurations including various 908, 917, and 911 models in various liveries.
They also have a lot of other interesting cars, including a few Ferarris, Ford Capris from the early 80s DTM series, C5 Corvette, Saleen, BMW M3 GTR, and much more. There is also a very active secondary market for these slot cars. They are the most detailed slot cars I've seen, much better than Scaletric and Carerra, although I've seen a few from other, newer vendors that appear to be gonig after Fly.
Here is my C31 Lola T70

I was torn between 1:32 and HO scale setups, but decided that the 1:32's extra bulk was to my liking. I'm going for a permanent setup myself - trying to get as much track as possible in an are about 5'x10'. i just have to clean out our garage and get my dad's power tools out of the basement so that I have room to set it up.
turbokev, already found that site... There's some good info on there.

If you are going to get out the power tools and also building a permanent set-up, you might want to consider actually making your own track. If you have access to a router, you could make a professional quality track with just a little effort. You could configure the track any way you like and even build things into the track like squeezing all lanes very close together through a chicane for instance or through a tight corner, or something like that. You would have to route the guide slots and then switch to another bit to countersink some braided material for the electrical pick-up.

Kev, please do me a favor and let me know your opinion of the quality of this car in comparison to the Fly cars. I'm intrigued by them and the Camaros and a few others that Scalectric seems to have really put some effort into.
I'm a collector and not a racer, so I don't really care how they run, just the quality of the details.
