the audi 4.2 won't fit in the 944 engine bay, it's too wide.

I just wanted to let you know that some guys have actually swapped an Audi 5 cylinder into an early 924. They have the same bolt pattern. The audi transmissions that were in the 924s might bolt right up to the 1.8t. The only thing is I don't know how much the audi 924 tranny can handle. I'm sure its less then the tranny our cars use. You might want to check out 924board.org for some information. They do some crazy engine swaps. One guy is putting a rotary in his early 924. Crazy stuff goes on over there. check it out they might be able to assist you some with this crazy swap. I am supporting you. It sounds really cool.

IMO (not that anyone cares) a 1.8T VW/Audi motor into a 944 is the perfect marriage. Take an excellent chassis mated to a modern German (keep it in the family) engine.

Well since the 924 was originally planned to be an audi What the heck. Normally I'd be one to say get a 951 but this strangely sounds interesting.

My DD has the 2.7 biturbo V6 from the older S4. Almost no lag and its really easy to get 300+hp with just a chip. Also the ability to swap on k04s is nice.

I have always been a small engine/high horsepower engine tuner. Anyone can take a big engine and make HP. I like taking small engines and getting ridiculous amounts of HP from them. Back in the early 80's my daily driver was a Turbo 1.6L VW Rabbit with 225 whp. It was able to pull 13.24@124mph quartermile. Won FTD and class champ for 2 years in a row. It was a daily driver/SCCA Solo II Car & weekend dragracer. I drove the car for 5 years with no trouble until some kid made an offer I could not refuse! also the car got 32 mpg average if I didn't boost it (normal driving conditions). Then I graduated to a 1983 VW GTi 1.8L Turbo which did 11.8 in the quarter with slicks. 425hp at the crank. I made over 150 1/4mile runs @ 11 sec. for the first year I ran the car. the reliability factor kept me scratching my head. while my customers cars were breaking down weekly (not my fault!).

So my goal with this project is to at least get 30 mpg and be able to have the power to use when I need it. 350hp is my goal for the engine at the crank. I am going to use a stock block first and see how it holds up. for some reason I can buy complete engines from the junk yard here for $200 and they have a bunch of them. I am going to stay away from the stock computer to keep cost down since chips and mods will cost me more than the junk I have lying around the shop I can utilize! Also I am doing this on a 944. I am trying to hunt down a old 924 bell housing to see if it will save time, but I doubt it.

Well if this plan falls through save us all and be the first to get respectable numbers from a normal 944 engine

Yeah! It's all wishful thinking, but couldn't Jackson Racing make a mild supercharger like they do for the Miata?

Seriously though, you should create a website or have a thread detailing the ENTIRE procedure. I LOVE the 1.8T, in fact I just drove another one tonight, and even in stock form they are surprisingly quick.
I would totally be into this swap for my 944

Good luck with the project. I'd send you an Audi bellhousing but I scrapped my 924 parts car I had. Too bad cause it had the Audi 5-speed box in it I belive.

034 motorsport. Go GT30 and build engine. you will be around 300 hp.
APR tunning makes a nice turbo kit and AWE as well but they only offer a K04 kit for the car.

What is the weight of a VR6 (12v or 24v variant) compared to our 2.5?
If it doesn't upset the balance of the car, a turbo VR6 would be an awesome swap!

revived!! Anyone try this? I have a 951 without engine on the hook, and getting 1.8T's are easy? I actually have one from a Beattle (tranverse) without tranny. Basicly is just engine mounts, adaptor plate, what else?
I am figuring
1. still need something for clutch?
2. electronics (stand alone)
3? What else..

comments?
How many of these engines was he planning on adding to get this horsepower? LS1 probably easier.
