Clutch fork
Anyone ever have the clutch fork break, or perhaps the pin? My clutch has little to no play and and the fork is very loose. It'll move 1/2" down in the bell housing. ANyone have any ideas what it could be? If it is the clutch fork, is the any way to replace or fix it without pulling the tranny or engine (yeah - I know the answer to THAT one )? Help!

im in the process of replacing the fork (and clutch/and turbo/ and...) in VT951's car. The end of the fork just cracked and the more it separated the less clutch he had. Finally the clutch just wouldnt disengage all the way. You could also move the arm up and down in the little window on the bellhousing slightly. Ordered a new one from Paragon- still not cheap like $300!!

Had a friend break a fork at the track in Hastings, NE. I replaced it at the track with minimal tools, but you do need to pull the tranny and slide the torque tube and bellhousing back, so plan on a few hours. Missed qualifying, so he started 22nd, and finished 4th. Then he blew the motor the next race, lol, so it was all for nothing. Oh well. Symptoms: His pedal was sticking halfway down on occasion, and sometimes would come back fully, but he couldn't shift gears. Guide tube was broken as well.

SO the procedure would be to remove the tranny, starter, and clutch slave? Can you get to it w/o removing anything else?

edit, this is all assuming 2 piece crossover pipe. I don't know if you can slide the bellhousing back far enough to replace the fork on a 1 piece crossover.

Michelle,
It is possible that it is not broken, instead check to see if you are missing the clutch fork pin retaining bolt (or if it is loose). If so, the pin may have dropped down allowing the top side of the fork to become "unpinned". If so, push the pin back up and insert retaining bolt. This happened to me and is a quick fix. I'm hoping that is what happened to you.

I might have one in the garage. The good news is that you can get the pin through the fork with some patience and resolve, & you can get it back in without removing all that stuff.
