if it looked alittle more stock-ish w/ stock dash etc maybe i would like it- sleeper city. The custom dash, weird paint and interior threw me off the love train though.

Let's see, 240 hp out of a n/a motor? Could happen with nitro... maybe.
I emailed him and asked how he came up with HP rating. I'll share the response.
You can beef up a VW engine to put out around 160 to 175 hp, be lighter and air cooled, and no radiator. Doesn't look as cool and is still a VW vs Porsche.
Why didn't he put a 2.0 or 2.2, or 2.4 911 engine it it? Most likely just bolted up with minor tweaking. Then you would have been talking a motor you could build over 200 hp, and light weight.
Finally, you can turbo old air cooled VW motors. There are several kits out there.
What a waste of time.
What's really sad, some idot is bidding on it. Also, minimum is $20k!!! LOL

Too many haters. I agree it's not very tasteful and the numbers 240 and 150 are suspect, but this car is just another example of hot rodder ingenuity. Why? Why the f*ck not. He built it for himself. Not a bunch of Watercooler guys, many of whom haven't done one tenth of the wrenching or fabbing it would take to complete this Ghia Porsche.
Two things this forum religiously says can't be done: N/A to Turbo swap and late dash for early dash swap. This guy did something way harder. Much respect to him.
But the colors do make a pain behind my eyes!

Okay, here is the response to 240hp out of a N/A motor...
"944 literature is available in their motor manuals, that's where i get my info"
He must be confusing a turbo "S" with a N/A or maybe it's an S2 motor???
Have to look closely at the pictures.

No one said it "can't be done", it just isn't viable, worth the expense.
I like the Ghia, but I would have taken a different approach, saved weight with potential more power. Heck, I've seen VWs with big block V-8s jammed in there. Anything can be done.
Speaking of Porsches in general, they make lousy drag racers. I know, I know, there are a few out there that spent thousands to make theirs go fast in a straight line. But remember, that is not what the cars were built for, they were built for the twisty parts, not the straight lines.
Has the car sold and for how much?

The Ghia would probably be worth more stock. Those cars have really taken off in price the past couple of years. Hemmings had a write up this month. Brings back memories of my Dad's '65 Ghia. He always wanted to put a 356 or 912 engine in it, but never had time to to go look when I found one; he owned a restaurant (it owned him). We ended up replacing the stock 40 HP engine w/a 60 HP transporter bus engine.
That car was a blast to drive. MG's and 4 cylinder Triumphs were no problem.
