Post Black ice

I lost control of my car going 65 mph on the highway yesterday evening... Doesn't look to good...

When I got out of the car I realised that there were a couple of mm's of ice on pretty big spots.. must have hit one of those spots when I changed lane..

The ironic thing was that I was driving carefully since I hade been warned that it could be icey..

I guess that it is pretty much up to the insurance company now..

Probably a write off-sorry. Are you OK- that must have been quite a ride. Best of luck with the insurance company.

Man...that really sucks. It will be interesting to see how the insurance handles your claim.

I lost the rear at about 65 mph and spinned 540 degrees before going backwards into the rails, the car then changed direction and did a 360 to bounce the front in the rails in the middle of the highway - then another 360 that ended up with giving the rear another good wack. During all of this time I did not once hear the tires screaming against the asphalt so I guess it was all ice on that spot - the same thing could've happened in any type of car.

Finally the car was parked in the middle of a two lane highway, in the dark... It was exciting to say the least.

But no scratches on me - nothing, I just put my glasses on again and left the car. Wouldn't have been better of in any other car. A suv would most definately have flipped and in an airbag equipped car I would have been whacked up pretty good by the airbags.

When I came out of the car I saw the very thin layer of ice covering the entire road surface. Could have gone skating if I had my skates with me..

About a km in front of me a big Mercedes had a simililar incident and all in all there had been almost 20 single accident just that night and it's not a big area.

The tires are Bridgestone Blizzaks, to wide and no studs...

Good to hear you are okay.

We have been having retarded weather here. Unseasonably warm. Even had rain. Not normal.

Is that rim still holding air? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Ouch, that really sucks man. Just today on the way to work there was a 90 degree turn and a Golf just kept going straight. It did a nose dive into the ditch on the other side of the road, the back wheels were sticking up in the air. I wish I had my camera with me...

Good luck with what you replace it with....

[sarcasm]Isn't black ice beautiful???[/sarcasm]The only thing you can do is sit tight and pray that you don't hear the body hit anyhting. Blizzaks are great in icy condidtions. It's a shame you have to go through this... glad to hear you're OK though.

If I were you, I'd take off as many bits and piecs as I could before letting the insurance write it off. (Becuase it IS going to be a write off...)

At least grab the console cover and shift boot. The next 944 you buy may not have those in good condition.

Too bad, it looked like a really nice car. I'm glad you are okay though.

If I had a accident in my 951, and I was bleeding and hurt, I'd be more concerned for the car, than my own health.

All I could think of at the moment of impact in my accident, was "oh no! there goes my car!" I never even thought about getting hurt, other than the pain of losing the car.

You guys are making me feel bad, the only thing that went through my head was something like: "This is going to hurt!"

I must have been in chock when I walked around on the highway taking a look at my car in the dark.

The mantra that kept going in my head until I saw it today was: "It will be okay, not much damage. I'll have her back on the road in no time."

My fathers words when he saw the car were very brief: "You are going to need a new car."

Is it ok to cry..? That car was way better than any pet, parent or girlfriend ever can or will be.

It wasn't the only S2 in the world, but it was my first Porsche and I've wanted a red Porsche with black interior since I was able to walk...

Damn, it doesn't feel good at all right now.

I can promise that the next Porsche I drive is going to be a kick *** Porsche!
