Ok, I'm a doofus...
How do I get it out? I tried a magnet to no avail.
When this happened before my car was an automatic, and I just spun the engine by hand until the bolt fell out. Is this still an OK idea with all the clutch stuff in there?
Any cooler ideas?
Danke.

I did the same and now use duct tape when I work near that freaking hole. Mine was wedged between the block and the back of the flywheel. Luckily I was about to attach the TT to the bellhousing so I didn't have to remove all that much.

Make you own magnet tool....take the tip off of a store bought one, and then get one of those flexable claw tool things. Grab the magnet in the claw and flex your way around in there.
There are holes all over the bell housing. Get lights, mirrors (dentist mirrors are good), coat hangers, tie wire. (I've done this myself a few times) You can even tap on the bell housing with a hammer to see if you can work it loose.
Figure a clutch takes 8 hours (if you're good) so you've got 6hrs to work on this before you're behind.....(just a thought lol)

Do you know where it fell? It couldn't have fallen too far. I dropped a bolt in there too, between the flywheel and the block. I ended up using super glue on the end of a socket extension to pull it out. I agree with m73. I would do everything I could before I tore the car back down.

Its one of those retard porsche designs where you have the grounds with associated bolt and nut DIRECTLY above the TDC inspection hole. Do a search and you will find plenty of other people went through what you are going through. Some got lucky and got it out but others had to do a clutch job as mentioned above.

Stuffing a latex glove in the hole was easier than trying to get a piece of tape on there.
Some removed the starter so thay could have better access to the bottom of the bellhousing, and cranked the engine by hand, to get the bolt to fall to the bottom.

That sucks. Same thing happen to my buddy 13 hours into a clutch job from hell! Tried everything mentioned here, and he too had to take everything back apart. God Damn bolt! Hopefully you will have better luck. Damn!

Same thing happened to me. Try using an electrical snake, bend the end so you can snag it and move it to an area where you can get a magnet on it. worked for me... Good luck.
