Lexan question for you cup guys
Apexperformance.net sells both the lexan hatch..and also a windshield.
I know a regualr windshield for a late 944 is about the same price as the lexan one. I know there's no antenna, but I want to switch to the 968 antenna anyway.
So my question. Does lexan work on the street? I would get the hard coated one of course, but would it still scratch to easy? A lexan windshield and hatch would be a serious weight savings = a little better MPG
Thanks

I would love a Lexan hatch, but would never put a Lexan windshield on a street car, it's got to scratch over time and I think it would never look right. I would think that you have a lot of other areas to go first if you just want weight off, like radio, seats, undercoating, fiberglass hood and fenders, a/c delete, euro bumpers, etc.

You could always put some tearaways on it to help with the scratching issues... once one's done, just peel it off & bam!... new windshield. My biggest concern would actually be the yellowing that lexan often gets...
How would lexan (w/ tearaways) handle stone impacts relative to glass?

Is Lexan even DOT approved?
(Not that I really care about that, but if its not approved then I'm sure they have thier reasons why)
Apex does offer a "hard" coating. I wonder what that is, and if it works.

Not sure about Nevada, but the NY DMV requires either "safety glass" or "firm plastic" (which I would assume lexan would be classified as) for all windows.

It installs the same as glass, with or without a frame.
I just installe done Thursday night and it is very straight forward. My car partner and I miscommunicated and we actually got two of them. PM if interested in a deal on one.

944 Spec (requires lexan door windows if you remove the interior door frame - plus it's lighter) - and 944 Cup allows lexan windshield (not sure about the hatch glass as I'm too lazy to read the rules). A proper race car arrives to the track on a trailer so no need to stay road legal.

So you have 3 options in 944 spec
- Stock door glass
- lexan
- nothing
Most guys run stock glass or nothing.
All other glass (windshield, hatch and rear side windows) must glass in 944 spec.
