Schrick Variable Intake Manifold

Not sure if the 968 manifold achieves the same thing... but my local engine builder who is a German says Schrick made a variable intake manifold(effectively varies the runner length depending on RPM) which was used in Europe years ago and worked extremely well.
He recommends trying to find one. I've had no luck on internet searches so I thought I would see if anyone here knows about these manifolds.

A friend of mine had one, and if I recall they only made them for Volkswagen VR6 motors. I recall a few cars had this system from the factory, tho most tuners toss it out for a more simple single length manifold.

the only aftermarket intake options that I know of are Lindsey Racing, Speed Force Racing, and Milledge. As far as I know, all 3 have static runner lengths. However, if you wanted to fabricate something yourself, there is a ton of information online on Toyota's ACIS and VIS variable intake geometry systems. Both are fairly straightforward (they use valves to alter the effective geometry of the manifold), but to be honest, if you're building a turbo motor, especially a high boost motor, the added complexity of the valves (and the risk that they could break under boost) might outweigh the benefits of variable intake geometry

The 944 is too small of a market for anyone to design and make this type of manifold. Most of the aftermarket manifolds are sheet metal design. A variable manifold are either cast, usually aluminum or plastic. The cost to have this made would not have enough benefit to warrant the cost.

im sure you could design one with butterfly valves or something that could lengthen or shorten the intake distance electrically but youd need to install some sort of sensor, maybe by RPM/throttle load in order to activate it.

Like I said, cost/benefit is the issue here. I would stick to what is available on the market, or since Dubai944 is building a race car, look into ITB setup.

OK, thanks for the info. Seems my German friend was smoking something back in the day when he imagined Schrick manifolds on 944s...

The challenge would be to get someone to do the right programming in Dubai. Many claim they know, none does. A poorly remapped ECU to match a different intake will give you worse results than stock most likely. With that being said, I am in Germany next week visiting quite a few race shops, if there is anything you need let me know by PM.
I heard you can now compete in the 3ltr class, great news
