Man I feel your pain.. similar story with a 951 a friend and I went to buy. Rented a trailer and truck and drove 6 hours each way , constantly being reassured the car is ours and is ready to go. We get there he won't answer his door or pick up calls :bangheaD:

That sucks, he probably got cold feet after all the offers or was talked out of it by someone. Since you have his address, I'd make him pay for your wasted time in person...

I sent a PM and emailed Ben Sunday night saying that I would come pick up the car Monday or Tuesday whichever worked for him and to give me his number so I could call him. I talk to him yesterday morning and we chatted briefly about the car as anyone would, and I told him I didn't care what was wrong with the car and I would come get it that afternoon after he got off work no questions asked. Well after waiting around yesterday to hear from him I decided to give him a call and leave a message saying that I was going to get the trailer and that since it was getting late that I wouldn't mind waiting until Tuesday since I hadn't heard from him. Well I get home last night with a message from Ben just returning my call, it was later so I figured I wouldn't bother him. Well I check my PM's and have a message from Ben saying he is going to wait for someone else to come this weekend for $100. I write him back saying I thought we had an agreement and that I have already picked up a trailer and gone through the trouble to set everything up with a friend to tow the car back to my place and if it was about money I would gladly pay him the $100 bucks for the battery and another $100 just to make it worth his trouble. Well I get a call from Ben at about midnight explaining that he has someone else etc.. well after discussing matters with him and explaining that I was setup to go first thing tomorrow he says no problem that he will honor our deal, he won't let it go to anyone else. I repeated to him several times that I didn't want to jerked around if it wasn't going to happen and to let me know on the phone that I had his word, and he reassured me that the car was mine not worry. Well today I call him several times before getting ahold of him to confirm that we are set to go, and once again he say's yes no problem he will be there. Well just now I get back from shipping some parts to another rennlister and I have a message on my phone from Ben claiming someone else saw his ad on craigslist which he told me was no longer up and came by and bought the car.

Needless to say I am pretty upset that I have been jerked around back and fourth by this guy, and can only imagine what a waste of time this would have been for some of you who were thinking about coming from out of state. I wouldn't be so mad if he hadn't assured me that the car was mine and not to take the trailer back etc. Now he won't return any of my calls to explain himself, so I guess thats what you get expecting something for nothing.
Sorry to hear it - I was going to drive 15 hours to pick up the car this weekend, if you didn't pick it up.

I had a similar thing just happen to me a couple weeks ago. I was set to buy his car, and go to Paypal him a deposit to hold the car for a couple day until I could trailer it home. Luckily before I rented the trailer and paid him the deposit - he told me he was no longer selling the car. I don't believe this was a Rennlister, but still sucks to be in that position - when you have "all your ducks in a row" to go buy something, and then they go behind your back.

Live and learn I suppose.

Still, no excuse for poor communication between all parties. That's not how you do business.

wow that is seriously screwed up!
I saw this when it first showed up and I was cautious

I talked to my brother and he said that even if the guy wants $500 its still a good deal and that we should make the drive

by the time I came home the thread has already taken off - if not I would have gotten the truck and gone to pick it up - totaly worth the weekend!

but this is not how you do business! very bad

Mark, well it sounds like you were in the twist of people Ben was flip flopping around. Regardless, like Marcquito posted thats not how you should do business with people. I had already contacted him, told him the money was not a problem and that I would be there Monday or Tuesday whichever worked better for him no questions asked. But for some reason he decided to flip around between about 3-4 people.

What amazes me is that he backed out of our agreement and told me that he was going to wait for someone else until the weekend. I told him I didn't understand why he would want to do that considering we already made an agreement and that I was ready to come now with money for the battery he bought and some extra to make it worth his time, plus it was getting rid of the car 4-5 days sooner then waiting for no reason. He then told me that he had to make a call and that he would call me right back. After he called back he said that he was no longer going to wait until the weekend for the other guy, but "could I wait until Thursday because someone else was going to look at it" I said no that makes no sense because I am ready to come now with money and why would either of us want to wait. After all of this he told me numerous times that "the car was mine, just come get it" and that I had his word he would wait for me to come today. Like I mentioned before, I talked to him this morning about 11:30 or so and he said we were good to go and that he would be there all day. So I left my house shortly to ship something and when I got back there was a message from Ben at around 12:20ish that someone had seen his craigslist ad and called him, came by and inspected it, got the car running, and drove it away. Judging from the message and his quick to get off the phone tone I find it hard to believe that is really what happened in that short amount of time.

HOLD ON A SEC!
Why is a non member posting a car for sale and nothing from the moderators?
I asked if anyone was "selling" a 944 a month or so ago...and BAM. Locked down. Just cause this "looked" like a free car this is out of bounds. I just want to say what he did was wrong, but how is this fair that some one who is selling a car for 75.00 allowed to run a post with this many replies? I was trying to replace my 944, this guy was selling! If I were to part out my wrecked car here by 75.00 incriminates, would that be allowed? All of you guys while I feel for you Colin, should be a little ashamed of your selves and the moderator who locked my post for trying to buy a 944 should look at this and explain.

Moderators are human, and miss stuff. Plus some of them also have FT jobs.

And when this first showed up, it was "free", not $75

Anytime you want to give away a 944, please feel "free"
I'm sure that won't get closed... just be sure to follow through with the free car!

Well then, the fact this is still not closed and I was looking to buy and NOT give away a free 944 is not making your argument any more compelling to me.

I'm confused at why you're mad.

It's not OK to offer stuff for sale or post a "wanted to buy" if you're not a member. Apparently, you posted a WTB thread that got shut down.

It's OK to give away stuff, doesn't matter if you are a member or not. Ben posted a "free" thread, then welched out on it (apparently, he sold it locally)

Feel free to report this post to the moderators; either they will warn Ben, or you'll see the "banned" under his name.

Doesn't matter, apparently he welched on it and sold the car locally. No free Porsche after all.

You could look for the craigslist ad and see if the VIN is there
