Product feeler...
Over the past couple of weeks I've been toying with the idea of a gas mileage chip. This would be geared toward people who drive their cars daily, but don't modify them for performance. The basic premis is you will indeed sacrifice a little bit of timing, but I can tune the chip to run 87 octane fuel, and get better mileage on it. Since 87 is 20-50 cents per gallon cheaper, you are assured a 30-35% overall fuel cost savings. This could also be coupled with the new Multi-board to have multiple maps, stock map for your performance and emission days, gas mileage map for round town driving, and/or any variation of the two elsewhere since you can have up to eithe maps.
Just trying to find out if anyone is interested in this, if so, I will build it, if not, I won't. It's up to you guys...
Regards,
Russell

To make the multi-image chip I have written a map stacker program which would allow other vendors to use this product as well. So if you want to run multiple images from another vendor, I will sell the board by itself, and you can direct have your vendor download it and make you a chip to work on the multiboard. I'll gladly share the software freely to anyone.
This is not an emulator like the maxtronic, it's simply a chip adapted to our computers that allows you to have up to 8 different tunes. You could have stock, performance, economy, valet, how ever you want to set it up. There will be many ordering options and the cost of the board adds 40 to standard chip pricing across my site.
And unfortunately no, I have not been able to get my hands on any 968s to work with yet. Since I've finished the 3.2L 911 products, I'm thinking of selling the 911 and picking up a 968 so I can get those done. But I'm not ready to do that just yet because I'm working on a low boost turbo kit for the 3.2L 911s.
So much to do.... Now that I'm living in MA and my son is in NY I spend a lot of time traveling back and forth, life gets pretty hectic sometimes, there's just never enough time it seems... But don't worry, I'm still grinding away at it....

Russell

i've run 87 with stock chips and have had no issues for 2 1/2 years with good starting, reasonable mileage, k276 if i want/need to get my foot in it.
the 951 was the dd until the recent addition of the mb sl320.
there's been a lot of discussion here of no need to run the higher octane and many don't.

You can indeed run 87 on stock chips, I've never run less than 89. Regardless of which octane you use, the chip would still improve your overall gas mileage as I can manipulate the fuel and timing maps. While the performance of the car would be slightly reduced, the gas mileage would be greatly increased.

I wouldn't buy a chip just for fuel economy, but I think having that option in a menu of 8 different maps available at the flip of a switch is great. If I could get that for an extra $40 over a standard chip, I'd be all over it.
As an added bonus, it gives me a good excuse to tell the wife. "Honey, I need to buy a chip to get better mileage. Just think of the money we'll save!"
By the way, what's the status of the late 944na chip (specifically the '88 924S). I haven't been to the website lately.

so is the 944 n/a / 924S chip out yet?
and could this "mileage" map be part of a maxtronic or maxtune package?
I'm definitely interested in maxtronic/maxtune (whatever the combo that's needed for image switching and custom tuning functionality)

Having this in the n/a chip (someday...) Would definetly make me bite the bullet and get one as soon as they come out. Having a tune for autox days and DD days on the same chip would be great.
