Mine says min 91 RON which is actually 87 PON in the US. The RON rating is the most popular one worldwide while here, if you read on the gas pump, it says (R+M)/2 which is actually (RON + MON)/2 or also know as PON. I found a chart that represents the different octane numbers according to the different ratings. RON 90 is equal to MON 83 and the difference between the two across the chart is 7. So RON 91 = MON 84 and (RON + MON)/2 = (91 + 84)/2 = 87.5 which is the octane rating in the USA. I run usually 89 on mine but actually I could run 87.
Also, the idea for a switchable socket and a better-MPG chip is very good IMO.

Didn't mean for the octane discussion to go this far, sorry Russel...
And again. I would DEFINITELY be in for this chip. Even if it was just switching economy and stock.

As for the early cars. I believe there's a good tutorial on changing over half of your DME to a BMW one which has a socketed chip. Other than that, they have to be modified, and I never finished getting an adapter board together. An associate was going to design/build an adapter and we were going to market it with my chips, but he fell off the planet somewhere along the way. So rather than spend time/money developing one myself, I'd rather people do the upgrade, or buy an adapter board from FR Wilk. I've never discussed this with him, but I'm sure he won't mind more sales. But, I could be wrong. The other alternative is to get an later model DME/AFM combination, then you can plug my products right in.

Then you'll be pleased to hear that the 85.5-89 944MAX chips are being released FINALLY next week. I posted a chart a while back on version 6, made version 7 from that and will soon have the final dyno chart. Not much has changed from V6 to V7. Actually not a heck of a lot has changed since V3 which out performed autothority chip. I'm calling it done.

SWeettt, SO the 944 chips are out soon?? Soo can You pre load the Maxtronic with the 944 performance chip and the fuel chip data???? If so I want to place a order right now

I'd definitely be interested in a fuel economy/ 944MAX/ stock/ valet chip. I'd bite the bullet right away
Oh, and to those who asked about 87. I used to run 91 in my car because i thoufht that our pumps used the RON rating too, but when i switched to 87 and 89 (89 (with ethanol) is about 10 cents cheaper here) i did notice a decrease in mileage and more engine shake at idle. when i was running 91 i was getting low thirties on long trips. Although it could be a fluke, because i recently tried switching back and noticed no difference in mileage and no better idling.

Russel, will you do a deal for Rennlisters like you did when the other chips were released?

Russel, I just want to clarify, Since I updated my AFM and DME to that of a later car say its an 86, will the 85.5 and later chips now work in my 84 or will it need further tuning?

That is correct, if you have a later DME/AFM combination you have a socketed DME and can install my 944MAX chip. There's nothing to tune unless you get it in the Maxtronic with Maxtune and tweak it. Or you can get it loaded with stock and mileage images on the multi-board.
