I just want to throw this out there:

If anyone breaks their center console I have an extra that I threw out of my car. It's not perfect, but it's not broken either.

I think I'll revive this old thread with a simple idea that I am doing. While I agree that the leather would be more difficult as it does NOT adhere as well as vinyl will. The issue that your guy had is a simple fix that if done correctly no one other than you would even notice it. You simply have to make a hem type fold seam on each half, almost like half a french seam, having them very slightly extend beyond the edge. That way when you put the top section on the two seams will push together and APPEAR to be one seam.

If you aren't a purist, consider the dash swap. The 85.5 944 dash looks many times better than the early one. Here in my area many people have converted 924's to 944's. Some of them have swapped dashes and you can't find a glitch. But, in your case I would stick with the original dash as I think it matches the look of a 924.

In any case have a look :

Yea, I've been thinking about that a lot lately. I just haven't had time to cut out a newer improved pattern. Because with just two French seams along the top and up the console, I still can't stretch the leather to fit cleanly (and I will not go with vinyl! lol). The French seam won't turn that sharp of a turn when I have to go up. So I think what i'll do is sew another seam through the turn and it'll wrap around the side of the console, therefore there won't be so much stress on the leather. Does that make sense? I'm almost done with my door panels, so I should be back on my center console shortly. I'd love to see pictures when your finish though.

I'd love to do a dash swap, but it's way to much work for me. I've also kinda warmed up to my early style interior. lol.

Funny, I translated that German text into English and it said it was a factory prototype for Porsche. Anybody every here anything like that?
