Thumbs up Dyno-MIGHT!!!

I went up to Cleveland for some DYNO time yesterday and it was a great experience. My car put down 290HP and 330ft lbs or torque to the rear wheels, mixture was right where I needed it and boost peaks at 17Lbs. Add 16% driveline
losses and that makes my engine output at about 340 HP and 395 ft. lbs of torque. It is a real neat experience standing 4 feet away from
your car howling hammer down up to 130 mph.. I've got video. For less than a Benjamin, it's something everyone should try. For one
run, I swapped out my 86 dme for the original 89 dme with no appreciable difference, both had modded chips. You can do before and after tests with mods and settings. A lot of marketers say "this is x HP" but you can't BS the dyno. Steve at Dynojet was a great host and really knows his stuff when it comes to Porsches and 944s.
If anyone was curious, My 89 has o-ringed and polished head, drilled cycling valve, adj. fuel press, chips, no cat, shimmed wastegate, and a cam. We discovered my mixtures were right on but I run out of turbo beyond 5k, maybe 55oo it starts tapering off. The pic of the 86 on the rack is my buddy Rhen's. As I said, it is a very enlightening experience..when the Dyno starts..the BS stops. Anybody who wants to give Steve a try let me know and I'll get his phone # for you. He's way out on the far East side of Cleveland, near E300th street or something like that.

Cool

I hit 17.6 lbs, carrying at least 17 from 3800 till it started tapering off at 4800. Next mod, bigger turbo...But it will be a while. (does it ever end? $$??)

Man, the sound was amazing..

Cool

Worth noting, the guy on the rack before us was in an Impala SS getting his "baseline" or stock numbers pre-mods. He ran something like 220 HP, Steve explained chevy's LT1 driveline has the highest driveline power loss of any car he's ever tested, as high as 25%!! This would explain why similar power/weight Porsches vs. Chevys and other domestics show the Porsche having big advantages, it is lost in the gross ineffiency of their drivelines!

Well, the Impala SS does have an automatic transmission. Automatics always have more loss than a manual, because they have a fluid connection (torque converter) instead of a direct mechanical connection.

The usual power loss figures used for LS1 engines (C5 corvettes, 98+ camaro/firebirds) are 15% for manual, and 20% for automatic. I thought LT1's were about the same.

Here's a video of my dyno run a few months back. This was when everything was just installed, before fuel/boost tuning, on a non loaded dyno with intake leak =).

339hp/404ft-lbs was what I got that day.

Rage your car is very impressive, I'm curious to see your new dyno results as everything gets sorted out.

Thanks Ian.

I want to work on and tune my car so bad the last month, but it's been raining/hailing/wet snowing daily for the last month. Then came the "big storm" on Sunday night... didn't stop until Tuesday morning. My garage is blocked with 4 feet of snow. Since I've replaced all my car's tires with summer tires, I couldn't even get to work yesterday. Even public transit, taxis, all took 4 hours to get downtown from my place. Sucks...

Dan p, who did your head work?

Nice numbers btw! Gives me some hope for the k26/8. I'm looking to run 15-16psi of boost with a test pipe, AFPR, steve R chips and MBC, maybe a greddy profec B...I think your numbers minus 15-25 is reasonable...
