Default Damper plate let go in my Auto.....

Coming back from the SCCA Tour event in Mass. we stopped for dinner in Newport, Vt and after taking the highway back to Quebec the vibration began.....The Canadian Customs agent had a surprised face when I approached his boot with that metallic vibration under the car !! I realized the damper plate was the culprit after having read all the Rennlist' posts, so I knew I could still make it home. I found that the vibration was a lot less serious at around 4k rpm so I made it to Quebec City from Vermont at 85 mph !

Now the bad news is that $1000 price tag for the part and 10-12 hours of labor at $60/hr for my mechanic...

Do you know of any "new" jobber replacement that would be less expensive ? No I don't want to put a clutch instead....

I did the job myself, not hard, just took time. All the steps are out on the web. Got the replacement parts from Vertex. There are many here that have done it and a quick search should give your what you need.

Here's what was left of mine.

Good luck!

Other than using a clutch set up, there is no way around a new one unless you find a used one but only if you don't mind doing the work yourself...

I had a recent scare when I thought mine had let go, so I know how hard it is to find a good, cheap one.

I suggest a WTB posting in this forum, and keep an eye open for people parting their cars. It wouldn't hurt to check eBay now and again, although every damper plate I've seen on there is from a dealer asking almost-new prices (but still, $800 is better than a thousand, right?). I think Nineapart here in Toronto sells 'em for around $600 used, though you might want to give 'em a call to make sure.

Used ones should be pretty cheap. I sold my last one on ebay for $155 and have 3 auto parts cars so if you are looking for a used one let me know.

Thanks guys, thank you lilredpo, Vertex had a very competitive price on a new one so I ordered from them. Legoland, thanks for the offer but since I pay for the labor I won't take a chance on a used one who may last only a few months....I would need to be like you and be a do-it yourselfer but sadly it's not the case !
