Post Interior Differences in 84 and 86 944

Hey Guys,

I've never BEEN in a early 944...and I heard the interior is kinda...worse...I think they are beautiful in black, but I've only seen pics. My later interior 944 I love and its comfortable as hell...Do any of you own both or been in both? Can ya tell me which you like better and why?

--Thanks!
Mike

My brother's 84 has the early inteior and my S2 has the late. The early ones aren't that bad. It's actually pretty similar for everything but the dash.

The seats are basically the same except the bolsters are not as defined, so in spirited driving they don't hold you as well.

The door panels are a little different, but not by much at all. The handles and switches are different. The center console isn't bad..very similar as well but the switches are in different spots. I like the late dash better, but the early one I wouldn't say is bad...I like them both.

Have owned my '83 for 13 years before the conversion. Never had any problems. A/C blew cold, no electrical problems... nothing. Guess I had a Wednesday car.

I'd take the late interior over the early interior, but I like the early one, too. It's neat.

I like the looks of the early interior better (but I might be biased) more spartan but more sports car.

And as for the seats, they can be changed easily enough. Hell all of us, early and late need to or did need to change the seats or coverings.

I have both (the 87 924S has the early dash) and I like both. The 951's dash is more refined, but the 924S cockpit is all business. The early dashes look more "racy", but that's just my opinion. Air is lousy in both, but it has more to do with hot Texas summers than anything else.

I have pics of both the 84 944 and 86 951 interiors. Check out my links below in my signature. The 84 has a carbon fiber dash. I know that there are some folks who think that it is to ricey. I needed to get these panels to cover some pretty bad scratches on the original bezels.

A few personal observations...

** The circulation on the 84 is not as great as the 86 (larger and better positioned vents)

* The steering wheel on the 84 sits much lower than the 86

** I prefer the more modern styling of the 86

I prefer the interior of the newer cars for all the reasons mentioned but I found the driving position in my early car more to my liking (seemed to sit further from the windshield and have more headroom).

ACG,

Since your website says you purchased Rosa in August 2003, ....what speed do you have to go in a 944 to time travel is it 88 mph to match the DeLorean?

Thanks

I got them on Ebay for around $200:
<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6769&item=2416063580" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6769&item=2416063580</a>

I was a Porsche newbie at the time, and later realised that there were better deals on dash panels.

My $200 set included carbon fiber set included panels for the gauge (X), center console (X), vents, gearshift bezel (X),cassette lid, door panel, glovebox door. Those that I marked with "X" were what I used. I decided not to use the rest as they did not complement the resy of the interior very well.

It turned out that the Ebay seller was a reseller. My package was shipped from the Canadian manufacturer, Gemico (http://www.gemico.net). They inadvertently sent the base invoice for the Ebay seller. The price was Can$149!!!

You may want to contact Gemico directly at the website to see if you can buy direct from them.

I found another source on Ebay, and this guys may also have a better deal for you:
<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33705&item=2416096954" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33705&item=2416096954</a>

My website does not show the updated steering wheel that I purchased on Ebay:
<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2407996830" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2407996830</a>

The steering wheel provided a nice subtle complement to the few selective carbon fiber panels.

I used a cheap digital camera on my website. It doesn't do the pics any justice. I hope to update with pics using a better camera soon.
