I bought my 86 951...103K miles, pretty complete service records, no dash cracks...yeah! 150psi across the cylinders, new clutch, new timing belt a year ago. It needs a little work on the cosmetic front....stone chips on the front bumper, cracked fog lens, and borken cassette lid.
I bought my baby for $6000!

I have both. Like others have said, the early interior is a bit more sportscarlike with its boxy design. As for the seats, not all the early cars had plain bolsters. My '83 came with sport seats that have larger bolsters than the seats in my S2 or 951.
I like the early interior in its own retro '70s kind of way, with the "glass cone" covered instrument bezels, etc., but I prefer the late kind because it looks and feels closer to the traditional Porsche 911 interior.
One thing I don't like about the early dash is the way it casts a reflection on the inside of the windshield when you're driving in direct sunlight. The late dash does not have this problem.

Im a sucker for the early style.. go figger.. All Business- no fluff. The late style is very pretty tho.. I guess when I get the 951 I'll have to adapt..
