OK, since the original poster's problem has been solved, I've got another ventilation problem for y'all. I deleted my AC over the winter, and ever since I pulled the evaporator from under the dash, I can't get any air to blow out of the dash vents. I get air from the floor vents and the defrost vents, but nothing from the dash. I assume I pulled one of the cables loose under the dash, but I haven't had the time or the inclination to crawl under there and look. Is there something else that needs to be done when you yank the evap, or can someone tell me where the cable that controls the dash vents is routed?

It's going to be about 100 degrees around here for the next couple of weeks, so I suddenly have the inclination to get all the airflow I can get.

Drive faster.... more airflow means cooler temperatures.

Yeah, I'll try telling that to the highway patrol, lol.

But seriously, if I'm above 35mph, open the drivers window about halfway, and put my left forearm over the top of the steering wheel, I get a glorious stream of air up my shirt sleeve and across my back. Aerodynamics is a beautiful thing.

Had many problems with the original cable to the HCV. now have a choke cable with one end attached to the HCV the other button end in the glovebox. Pull up, push down, works a treat!

After replacing the usual failed heater clip, the "blows heat constantly" problem reappeared. There are multiple less-common failure points. All of which fail-safe to "full heat". But while trying to diagnose and find parts, I've just wired the heater control valve closed. Disconnect the valve lever from the vacuum actuator, and clamp the valve shut with a home-made custom wire! Do all this carefully, the little parts are all plastic in there. Now, the unit just meekly blows outdoor temperature air.
