Default Sold the 91 Cab, bought a 94 968

At first I didn't really like the 968 because it seemed so refined and passive compared to the 944S2 (with the chip/exhaust/intake it felt a lot torque-er....).

After driving the 968 over 1000 miles I definately have gained a respect for it and dig the performance with the AC on (fact-o-life in Scottsdale this time of year).

One problem I have is that it's starting to leak coolant. It was a non-leak at first, went to a couple small drops within a day, now I have 8 or so oz on my garage floor. I'm keeping the level up and stopped driving it yesterday.

I'm going to get it on a lift to check it out but wondering:

Likely hose or the pump....?!?!?!?!?

I'm thinking hose because I had a pump go out on an Acura a few years back and that was catastrophic (aka freakin' voided itself all @ once...).

Suggestions/thoughts???

AZ,
Im thinking about doing the same thing S2 to 968. PM me with the details of your deal please. There is a 69k example in AZ that the guy wants strong money for. Maybe you know the car.

Where's the leak?

On the driver's side of the radiator, there is a small plastic fitting that is known to shear. That'll leak. The pump can also weep over time, as well as a loose connection of a hose. Hopefully it isn't the pump or a leaky radiator.

Heater control valve (on the passenger side, front) is known to grenade itself -- I've seen it happen too often. We gotta know the location of the leak before we can really tell though.

Tom, I don't know the car but I would be willing to check it out for you. I also have a great mechanic at Stuttgart Southwest who could do a PPI if the guy wants to run it over there (Tempe). Also ask him where he gets his maint done, I know all the independants.

I haven't jacked it up yet (want to get it on a lift and p-wash it but don't want to beg lift time from my mech...). I'm going to lift it, take off the bottom cover, wash the hell out of it, let it dry and track it since it could run from anywhere to anywhere... I'm thinking it's just the lower hose since it took a lot of driving to result in a lot of fluid leaking. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Does the hcv go after using the heater or just a random failure?? Also, Yellow, where is that fitting and what does it do??? I'll look for that when I'm in there.

Congrats on the 968! A slow leak could be anything, from a loose clamp, to a headgasket. Try to zone in on it.

Post some pics!!!

Pics soon to come. Tom, you're right, the story has to add up and no "freak" would go beyond the 30K mark on belts....

On a 968? 45k is fine for the timing belt, just a waste of money to replace it sooner. The 968 tensioning system is pretty belt-friendly, unless there were other worn-out components that would damage the belt it should not be a problem to use the manufacturer's interval (which I think is 48k for the tbelt.) It'd probably go 60k but sensible to replace at 3/4 of that to be safe.

Here's another one in AZ, but for not nearly the same $$:

Looks like they are going to trade it in by the weekend.

Not mine, BTW.
