Post Can I drive it home?

Well, I went out at lunchtime and ALL my power steering fluid was on the ground. Not sure where it's leaking. Not at the reservior, and the rack was a fresh ZF rebuild last year.

Can I drive it home? Will I screw something up driving it for 1/2 an hour without fluid?

Kind of weird. The car hasn't leaked a drop of anything for the last 8 months. Everything was sweet on the drive in to work, wandered into my building feeling all kinds of good about the car. Something just went south while it was parked or shortly beforehand. Cripes...

I have to laugh...

I always thought the 944 was power steering not assisted power steering. If this is the case the car will not turn at all without the fluid.

It will drive fine with no fluid in it. I did it for 6 months. Good workout for the arms.

However, you will want to take the belt off the PS pump. Driving more than a few minutes with no fluid will fry the pump. New one is almost $300 bones. Just take the belt off, or cut it off, and drive her home.

Perry, does that belt drive the alternator also? Or is the alternator on the A/C belt?

Thanks

AC and ALT are 1 belt, PS by itself... IIRC, and I pretty sure I do.

Thanks Perry! I will, of course, do a visual check before I get to cutting the belt.

Use caution, Monday AM I noticed a slight petroleum type smell on my way to work, PM it was worse. When I got home I found that the bottle of Techron Ikept in there had sprung a leak

I made it home. No P/S belt, no problems. Thanks y'all.

Exploratory surgery Saturday. Note to self: buy Bandages...
