I am thinking of going into business for myself but not sure what to do. Just thought I might get some ideas from you all. Thanks

Hey Jamie944,
Not self employed (well sorta - college student), but if I could try something it would be parting out these fine cars we all like. Seems like the 924/944 series are relatively cheap to buy whole as compared to their parts value. Just don't have the location for this activity anymore (used to be a country dweller).

Jamie.

Yes and no.

don't forget self employment tax. Bout 15%. You have to pay double sociaal Security. Yours and the Employer contribution.

On the other sidem you have to be really motivated. I work from home, and do stuff on the side. Luckily I can do well not getting up till 10. But that can put a real cramp in your style on other areas.

It can be really great, or it can leave you homeless. Expect to have your stress increase about 800%, but your daily satisfaction to increase about 400%

No crank labs in my future for sure. LOL I have had a business before with a partner. I don't want to get into that field again. Owned a custom stereo shop. I am currently a manager over one of the biggest retailers in the World auto center. I do over 2 million dollars a year in business just in my store. In charge of 20 people. I don't mind the work. I actually really like to work. But I want to do it on my terms for myself not the other guy. I have the knowledge and the skills I just need the right avenue to follow.

Car audio might not be the best bet. Lots of competition out there.

Maybe branch out into high end home audio/theater systems. Pop me a mail ( etrent@sidv.org ) I can give some pointers, and I have some contacts in system automation that might help. Exspensive but worth it. Actually have a couple of ideas that I'd be happy to work with you on and let you have.

7th stranger, I have been thinking about getting a+ certified and continue some schooling to become an independent contractor or get in with some big firm the only thing is that puts me back where I'm at now. Wal-Mart is where I am working now and I can't begin to explain the stress and dismay I have. You probably know better than the rest what I am talking about there. I won't get into it in the open like this.
Sid, I have thought about doing something like that. I still install stereo's on a regular basis and really like Home audio. I don't have a lot of money to start with but I may look into some government grants or something for the money. I will e-mail you probably tonight thanks.

Stereo shops in NWA do pretty good.

I think this is one part of the country where the economy really doesn't matter. ie we grow like hemorodes.

If you really want to start your own business look into relocating here.

I have been leaning more and more towards something from home. The only thing is finding something that isn't a scam. I know people work from home and make money and I would like to be one of them.

If you want to follow an IT carer go for it.

Most companies are not like Wm.

Believe me I know.

Although the IT market is tight right now. But I still see plenty of jobs for help desk here in NWA.
