Doing rear wheel bearings this weekend and have all the tips and tricks to get this nut off. But I have learned that the nut needs to be replaced - since it's a one-time-use lock nut.
What's the part# and size of that nut for the 944S2 (aluminium trailing arms of course). Want to make sure I've got everything I need before starting.
Thanks in advance!

I guess the manuals say to replace it but lots of folks re-use them. I always have with no ill effects. At 340lb/ft it's not coming off. Add Locktite if you want insurance. I don't know the number but I think they're about $5 at a dealer

You will need the parts below as a minimum:

& you will need a tool similar to this:
![](http://www.automotion.com/aux_incl/images.ashx?i=New+Puller+Kit.jpg&partNo=110407&w=600&h=600)
I don't wish to put you off but... I am an amatuer mechanic without a lift and the job took me four hours to do both, with the right tools. My local independent Porsche shop said they would do the job for $400 using my parts. This was such a PIA that if I ever have to do it again, I will gladly pay the $400.
Good luck and let us know how you got on.

Thanks for the heads up - I expected this to take about that long.(Course - now I have a target time to beat! : )
I have a fair bit of experience - air tools and everythign else I need - except the part # for the nut so I can replace it. Not a fan of reusing locknuts in a place that is admittedly a hassle to get to.
But I'm doing this for the "fun" of it - not really to save money. I just like working on my car. I like the feeling of accomplishment when things like this howling wheel bearing get replaced.
Also - still looking to confirm the SIZE of this nut - I may need a proper sized impact socket.
Thanks!

The nut is available from your local dealer or 944online The part is #900.910.093.02 and it is M22x1.5
For future reference all part #'s and sizes are available from the Porsche PET
I got mine off with an air tool so I don't know about any exotic leveraging techniques that other people have used.

Great - thanks for the PN and the PET tip!
As for exotic removal procedures - check Clark's Garage - neat tip for using a breaker bar and the WEIGHT OF THE CAR to get the nut loose.

That's right - 32mm axel nut size for a 1990 S2 (verbose for future searches).
Ran the nut off with NO problems - big compressor and big air gun (well, just 1/2 inch but near TOLT Cambell-Hausefeld).
One interesting note - don't assume your local Canadian Tire will have a 32mm socket on hand. Had to go to Parts Source to score that - so an extra trip I wasn't expecting. Local's who want to borrow mine - just let me know. Come to the Toronto Sat AM GTG and I'll gladly lend you this and save you $30.
But here's a pickle, how do you remove the rear caliper WITHOUT undoing the hard brake line??
Otherwise I have to bleed the brakes after. I'm okay with that - but happy to avoid it if possible.
Tips?
