Default changing front springs on '86 turbo w/o alignment loss?

So I was reading through this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ight=alignment

on how to change early car strut inserts w/o affecting alignment. Will I be able to do the same thing to change the front springs on my '86 951? I just want to make sure the strut will clear the fender so I can swap out the springs.

I dont see how you can change a spring and not effect alignment. It would have to have the exact same properties as the one you are changing out, and everything would have to go back exactly how you took it out. In which case why would you be changing it to begin with?

you can pull the large nut at the top, then jack the car up and pull them out- if you compress the strut you should be able to clear the fenders but be careful. Any time you have it apart you will loose some alignment - especially if you are lowering the car or if you have the strut bolts out. Pull the spring and pop it back in w/ just the large nut at the top- you'll be close but the alignment will still be off.
