Default Car stalling at WOT

My 86 NA just started stalling, but only under WOT, as soon as i let off the gas a little, it goes back to normal. Any suggestions to what it could be? I tried searching but couldn't find much since i have new plugs wires cap rotor and fuel filter. I did just fill up with gas today though...

TPS has a WOT signal that can go bad. Unplug it and drive, see if it goes away.

The plugs don't really have any deposits on them or anything, but they are a little white.. And sorry if i sound stupid, but how do you unplug the TPS?? I have been suspecting that to be screwing up, because every so often the car's RPMs will stick until i turn it off, but that hasn't happened for like six months

Sounds just like a TPS sticking/bad. On the throttle there should be a connector on the bottom side?? (n/a is diff then turbo) But it if def. on the throttle body somewhere.

I drove around on a bad TPS (unplugged) for a while b4 i replaced it. Ran a bit rich and idled high, but at least I could drive it if I wanted to tool around town with it.

If u do replace it, just follow www.clarks-garage.com to set it up properly afterwards.

Its definitely the TPS, but to get the throttle body off, i need to get those four allen bolts out, but they are not moving even after liberal amounts of liquid wrench. I don't want to strip them, anyone have any tips to removing these?

"Shock" them. If you can get an allen head socket/ratchet combo on it, hit the end of the ratchet lightly while gently turning to remove. They should normaly back out. You can also try tightening first a tad, but the shocking method works best.

Yup. I always said you had to "wake them up". A nail punch works well too.

If you strip them you can hammer a triple square (cheesehead) bit into them and turn them out. Hopefully you won't have get this drastic.

Thanks! I'll give it a try whenever it starts to warm up again... Heavy snow at the end of march... I hate the midwest

At one point, my car was doing the exact same thing - it would stall at WOT and as soon as I let off the gas it would go again.

My solution was just simply to take the MAF plastic cover off and make sure the little WOT arm was getting good contact - which it wasn't.

So I simply used a little bit of sand paper and shined up the contact and sprayed some contact cleaner all around in the MAF, and now it has never had the problem again.

Its a simple solution, but totally worth a try!

Yeah, i can try that too.. But it seems very strange that the problem stops when i unplug the TPS. I'll definitely give your solution a try! thanks

Unplugging the TPS is the same as running at WOT. That's why the problem goes away when you unplug it. A lot of people have a bad TPS and don't know it. They are running really rich except at WOT.

It could be why the butt dyno has been feeling a little more lacking than usual lately.. and my fuel economy is about 5 mpg less than when i bought it despite a new oxygen sensor and full tune up
