And then theres this...

Which is just a wavy spring that creates friction between the axle gears causing some percentage of lock-up. This spring is actually a Ford factory part that costs about 12 bucks.

Interesting stuff.

we had phantom grips for the Acura RSX. highly not recomended. i have a quaife in my rsx.

if not quaife, OBX makes a cheap chinese knockoff that's exact same design as quaife but just poorly finished. You just had to open the OBX up and deburr the edges with a dremel and retorq the hex bolts to spec. Then it worked just as good as the quaife.

I remember phantom from my Prelude days. I would not recommend them as I seem to recall some guys that had some stress issues in their trannys and some that would just not work. As suggested a Quaife would be a better solution or a used factory LSD.

Know if they have one that'll fit a 944 gear box?

I remember these from the Geo Storm/Isuzu impulse board.

Even with the 1.6L engines in those cars, these units couldnt keep the wheels gripping. It was generally decided that they were aptly named, the extra grip is a phantom.

wish i knew. given that it's a chinese knockoff, it's kinda hard to ask em straight questions and expect them to be correctly answered. u know how those knockoffs are heh. they're a budget lsd in honda circles

Yes, buy a Quife or Guards or stock LSD parts and get a shop to install it all.

Say I have a wavy spring like that one in the picture. What kind of diff is it supposed to go into, can I do it myself, and what else would need to be done in order to accomplish whatever is to be accomplished?

Lessons learned in life part 72, what is cheaper is rarely better.

As is the case with the phantom grip limited slip, I took a chance and put one in my 2nd (or was it third?) 951 and it just didn't perform as well as the Quaife or factory LSD units.

The phantom grip works as its name suggest. The grip is a Phantom. (ie not really there). Don't waste your money on one.
