I don't fit in my car with my helmet on!
OK, I'm thinking of adding a race seat to my car for track sessions.
This seat will be for the track only and I dont mind swapping seats for the four or five times I hit the track per year. I will keep my stock power seat for the street.
The car is an 86 951 with sunroof. The driver 5'11", with an XL helmet
The problem is when I'm in the car in a comfortable driving position for the track, my head is hitting the roof.
I will be using a 5pt. harness system, and I want something that will bolt bown using the stock bolt holes in the floor but I need a seat that will put me lower in the car. What I'm looking for is a seat with mounting brackets that will bolt in and accept a 5 pt. harness system.
What are you guys using and where did you get it?? Pix would be great

Check with the regulations for where you are going to be tracking. Here in PNW there is a new rule this year that all restraints must be the same for both pass and driver (Seats and belts). So note you may want to look at 2 new seats, or a custom, lower mount for the stock seat.

With this seat http://www.racetechseatsna.com/race_seats/RT4009.html with side mounts, my seat can be adjusted low enough to sit right on the floor. Plus you can tilt the seat back to make even more head room.

Yeah, leaning the seat back will give substantially more room.
I use a Kirkey seat with side mounts bolting to the stock locations, and the base is very thin, and touches the floor. Lots of room.

On my early car, I replaced the stock steering wheel with a Momo Prototipo and adding a Smart Racing Products spacer. That way I can recline seat enough to get my helmet off the roof (I'm 6', 1") and still reach the wheel comfortably. I'm thinking about changing wheels to one of the newer Momos with the deeper "dish" to move even closer to the seat.

I'm 6'2", and when I first started going to the track, I'd have to slide the seat up 2 or three notches and lean it back to get clearance for my helmet. Since I got used to driving the car that way, I pretty much leave it like that all the time now.

Depends on your built too. Im torso man here. Only 6' barely but with short legs so that i need to seat close enough to reach the pedals. No way i can fit in one with a helmet either. Read somewhere about pedal extenders...no jokes please!

i ran into this problem- twice- my n/a and my now turbo- i could drop the seat back slightly to fit but it was not comfortable and probl. not safe. You cannot use five point harnesses w/ a stock seat so the choice was inevitable. I bought some corbeau seats for my n/a which were ok but didnt sit a whole lot lower w/ sliders and werent real comfortable. Now i have OMP seats- solid driver and reclinable ps both w/ five point holes. I love them. Definitly get the nicest seat and harnesses you can afford- i bought corbeau harnesses- camlock- but they are cheap compared to the ones i had in the n/a- so i may eventually go back to a simpson or other nicer system. Plenty of room w/ a helmet now though and the seat is very comfortable.

I have moved the seat up and recline the back, and I also have the factory steering wheel extension. the driving position is just not right, I need to sit lower in the car, so I will look into some seats but I want to sit in them before I buy. so I'll be driving dow to LA to have a look soon.
will the side mounts for race seats bolt to the factory mounting points on the floor?

I am 5' 7" and my head hits the sunroof with my helmet on. I also had a problem of driving with the visor open and under braking visor was hitting the sunvisor. I was thinking of reshaping the foam on the stock seat.
