Only two straps! I guess you just can't stop quickly.

Good thread. Good info. My wife is very excited about "her" new car -- Benz GL320 CDI. She doesn't realize that I picked it for it's towing capability! I don't mind driving the 944 to the track; but sooner or later, I'm going to find myself unable to get it home.

Then again, by using a trailer, I am adding two more vehicles to the could-break-down list. Imagine being in Danville, VA with a busted trailer and two vehicles?

PS: How big an explosion occurs if you exceed 45MPH with that U-Haul trailer?

Could you imagine the hazard you would be on the thruway in 80mph traffic if you *actually* went 45mph? I'd rather risk a tire blowout than risk causing a multi-car pileup.

The reason why they say 45 is because their are some very smart pre-madonnas. but i usally do 70 65

Check your trailer before you take it out of the lot. Make sure your tires are good. At least that is what i do.

I had this problem. I sat in the car to steer while we pulled it up on the trailer. (car ran, but couldn't shift. The magical circle shifter meant we were stuck in 4th.) When it was up and on the trailer i realized the door wouldn't open due to the door hitting the wheel cover. It was out the window for me. Kinda fun.

On the way home we purposely stayed around 55 on the highway to **** people off. Figured most of the time the stereotype is Porsche's are the the ones speeding through traffic, why not have one hold them up for once.

I've towed three Infiniti Q45, a Lexus GS400, an Audi A6, 944/924 and 968, Toyota Corolla and Honda Civics and Acura Integras. Tow vehicles were full size Chevy and Ford pickups and SUV. The tag on the side of the trailer states the weight of trailer is 2000lbs and max load is 4000lbs for a total weight of 6000lbs.

Apparently my '99 4runner wasn't acceptable for towing anything more than a Honda Civic, they let that slide, then when I went to pick up the trailer I told them I was towing a Geo Metro. Anyway, my life turned out fine and I'm a happy person.

I rented a Uhaul trailer from Canada to pick up a 968 in NJ and the only thing they wanted to know was the tow vehicle. Ford Explorer was a no-no. I have GMC so no problem.
