Default I need some questions answered on my 87 944 n/a

Thanks for stopping by and replying

#1- A little bit of a whining in the rear. What could that be? Does something need to be changed (fluid) or could it be low as the car sat for around 3 yrs.

#2 What weight oil and type of filter? Is penzoil ok ?

#3 I think i need struts. It rubs on turns and sways in the road. What kind of struts?

#4 What kind of Shocks? This is a weekend car

#5 Oil guage. As soon as I turn on the key, it stays at the top till i turn the key off. I have made sure the wires are tight, so what else could It be?

#6 Gas gauge. the gas gauge jumps works great one time, then stays down the next. It's just random.

#7 The windshield wipers do not work. I have checked the fuses in the fuse box and they are fine. Is there any way that I can check the wiper motor? Any other tips on what might be wrong?

If you can answer any of the questions, please put the question number with your answer. Please, answer as many as you can.

Thank you thank you

1. Could be the transmission making noise. It wouldnt be a bad idea to change the fluid if it sat for 3 years.

2. For warm weather Id use 20w50. Pick your favorite brand. For filters you cant go wrong with Mann if youre going for the German OE filter.

3. Sachs or Boge woudl be the original struts. Koni and bilstein make higher performance struts.

4. See #3

5. Sounds like a bad ground or a bad sender.

6. Mine acted similarly, so I took the sender out and cleaned some of the gunk out of it. Cured all of my problems.

7. You can check voltage at the wiper motors. Id also check the wiper relay.

1.A fluid change to a good synthetic oil may help.

2. 20w-50 synthetic synthetic synthetic mobil 1 or my favorite Royal Purple. Mahle oil filter

3,4. Up to you and your budget.

5,6,7. most likely your grounds need cleaned

hope that helped

This is normal.

20W-50. Pennzoil is fine.

Stop by Paragon Products' suspension site for a full selection. If you're on a tight budget, for a weekend car you can get away with KYB.

Check out info on these issues in the Workshop Manual on http://www.clarks-garage.com.

maybe your girlfriend wants to sit in the front?
Does something need to be changed (fluid) or could it be low as the car sat for around 3 yrs
Change regularly, just like engine oil. It won't get low unless you have a leak, but it does get old.
#2 What weight oil and type of filter? Is penzoil ok ?
Depends on where you are and the weather, +1 on xxW50 for warm weather. Some people swear by 15w40 rotella, others like 5w50 synthetic. Make sure your oil filter has an anti-drainback valve. Since it sits high in the engine and "upside down", your oil will drain out the filter without the valve
#5 Oil guage. As soon as I turn on the key, it stays at the top till i turn the key off. I have made sure the wires are tight, so what else could It be?
It can also peg if the leads to the oil pressure sender are switched.

Oh goodie! Another chance to whip out the grounds diagram!

By the way, if you're changing tranny fluid, it's a good idea to change the gasket and filter at the same time. At least with an automatic ... I'm not sure about stick.

The gas gauge ground is MP1 in the photo, under the carpet - good writeup with pics on Clark's garage.

If the leads for the oil sender are reversed, they'd likely be right at the sender on the engine. There are some pics floating around, and probably a write up with pics at clark's garage

Also, if you are changing the tranny fluid, make sure you can loosen the top (fill) bolt before draining
