Default Finally Took The 951 Out After Nearly 1.5 yrs of Storage

My nephew Travis and I finally put the trickle-charger on it after Church this morning and she was charged by around 4PM. Of course she starts right up and after a bit of ticking the oil pressure pops right up and she idles perfectly!

We took her out and had one nice Sunday afternoon drive! We talked about family stuff... mostly how much we missed my dad (his grandfather) who died 6 years ago suddenly. We talked about how lucky we were to be driving in a Porsche and how much better and easier our lives where than either of our parents at our perspective ages. We reminisced about dad's last Cubs game with us (it's a religion in our family) and how much we'd give to have him back for one more game at Wrigley and how of course we feel that this could be the year (this very thought is what keeps Cubs fans going year by year).

All in all it was a very sweet drive. It was nice and cool still and the turbo was suckin' air like there was no tomorrow. I swear the sound of that turbo in the '89 951 is one of the sweetest sounds in the world. My nephew is a couple months from turning 21 and is dating a girl and looking to get married. He's at the point in his life where he feels that life is waiting on him and his girlfriend to get married but in actuality this is the days he will look back on and say I had the most freedom to do anything I wanted to and I didn't. It's the regret we almost all have! Oh well, he'll learn... we did!

The sun is setting in Southwestern Michigan and you can see the glow from Lake Michigan from the second story of my house. The cover is back on her and a promise has been made to her that I won't ever let her sit that long again! Life is good!

Best Wishes My Brothers,
Cory

PS - Man the dust was everywhere! Can't wait to get a little warmer weather and detail her!

That was a nice read, Uncle Gobogie. You do your father, your family, and your community a service by taking your nephew for a drive like that.

Your car is definitely the stuff of dreams. Nice to hear she got out!

I let mine sit over a year once, but now it's seldom over a month that I let it sit. They're too much fun to drive! Thanks for the update and pics.

Hi Cory! Great to see you back on Rennlist and I still want your 951!!! Gotta love oone that is soooo nice! Still waiting for you to stop down and talk Porsches for a while! Pick a nice day this Summer and we will do it! I sent my 83 911SC off to a fellow in Washington State, to enjoy with his 356's! He loves it. I currently have a "Muscle Car" to work on for the summer; have wanted to do one for Cruise Nights and so forth. I had the same car (1968 GTX) back when I was in college, and now get to enjoy it in a more "sane" state of mind! I will see if I can email you some photos! Take care from Redfish, Elkhart, IN...
