Not a big deal for me, but still not an insubstantial accident. I didn't file a claim, and Carfax says it's clean.

Don't rely on them. Get the car on a lift and look for welds, different color paint, etc. Better yet, pay a pro to give it a PPI.

Thanks. I'd definitely do a PPI, it won't be until I've looked at the car personally though and the dealer is willing to negotiate on the price. If we agree on a reasonable price I'd take the car in for a PPI, if the PPI turns up with bad results I'd either pass on the car or try to renegotiate with the dealer on the PPI's findings.

I would be interested to see the maintenance records on the car as well. Two years ago I helped a buddy out on the purchase a '95 968 in the same color combo out of Georgia for about 12K. That car was also in very good shape, I would say if the maintenance records are together and it drives nice, drive it home. I'm surprised it has sat on a dealers lot at that price, possibly for a reason but hope not for your sake. Good luck with the purchase.

I love white 968's. I think that's what caught me on this car. I'll have to see what it looks like in person, as well as how it looks mechanically.
I sold cars for 5 years so I may be able to help you out a bit.

1. If you are going to finance the car call around to local credit unions and find out the best intrest rate based on your credit score. The finance office at the dealership can mark up the intrest rate if they do your loan there. Example you qualify for a 5.5% intrest rate. The dealership can say the best rate is 8.5% and they will make the 3 points on your loan. They will also try and sell you GAP insurance and an extended warranty. You decide if you want to buy them. I never did but that is your choice.

2. You should be real close on your trade in. KBB trade in value is real close to black book value. I am sure they will come in and offer you $5000 for it. Hold your ground. Like you said they have had the car for 3 months and want to move it.

3. If they are asking $10,900 for it and you pay anything over $9500 for it you are paying too much.

4. Do not even tell them you have a trade in. When they ask "Do you have a trade in" Say NO.

5. Work it like it is 2 deals. Deal number 1 the 968. I would offer like $8000 first. Do not tell them you have a trade untill your happy with the price you are going to buy the 968 at. When you agree on the price say hey just out of curiosity what would you give me for my 99 4-runner?

6.Like I said they will now come in and offer you like $5000 for it. However you know the value to be around $7000 so work that deal untill you are happy with the money you get for it.

7.Then put a $100 deposit to hold the car pending a PPI

Have fun. Please come back and let me know if this helped you out.

Haha. Thanks for the helpful advice Justin. I was going to go in and offer the trade in before I worked on the price, I'll do it your way instead. I'm assuming since the car was a trade in that the dealer got it for around $6-7000 which is why I was starting at 9,000, but I'll start at 8 and see what they say.

If they don't bite, there will be other 968's. Figure if I start to walk off the lot after we get up to $9000 they'll consider my offer.

The woofer can go, doesn't look like it's bolted down or anything, just pull a few wires and thats it. Figure once I get it I'll do the belts, cam chain, head gasket, and other top end seals just for good measure.

1,000th post woohoo!

Nice one Roger. A nice car for the missus? You don't wanna dabble in Porsche slowness.

Jason, you know my thoughts on this one! Some 968-specific bargaining chips: Ask if the pinion bearing in the tranny has failed yet (they all fail) and if it was properly repaired. Ask if the $955 flywheel has been replaced yet... the 968 flywheel has a short lifespan. Have you driven a 968 before? Don't be surprised - the car is MUCH faster than a 944... Especially at that 4200rpm torque peak. Try not to smile or anything as that might make the dealer try to charge more for your enthusiasm.

Did you buy it yet Jason? Im tempted to drive up there and look at it. Not to put any pressure on you or anything.
