Default Why Does The Oil Pressure Gauge Bounce?

Mine bounces pretty good when it's warm and idling. Between 3 and 4.5 bar (I think). Is that normal?

Mine wiggles when warm at idle between 2.5 and 3 bar with 10w40 in it.
Most wiggle I get is +- .5 bar at idle. I don't know if it's normal or not though.

It's common but it "shouldn't" bounce. A system that is working properly would show a steady reading. If it wobbles, it could be an old sender unit or maybe gummed up OPRV / housing...?

Mine does that too. A little twitch/spasm every other second or so. I'm going to have to write it off as "normal" in order to restabilize my blood pressure searching for answers. So far , replaced oil pressure sending unit, changed oil cooler seals, cleaned all grounds plus made new ground cables & installed auxiliary ground, cleaned all contact points on back of instrument cluster, tried variety of different weight oils over the years, to no avail. Been going on since I bought it 17 years ago.

Also does it here while at idle. 2-2.5 with 15w-40.

Mine has been doing this since I bought it in 2001. In 2005 I pulled the head and did the bottom end. Bolted everything together with a new Bosch sending unit, new seals on everything near the oil filter housing, oil pressure valve, etc. and it still bounced when warm. I run 20W-50. Last year I changed the sending unit again, to a non-Bosch part, still bounces.

I have cleaned every ground I can find, tested every sensor according to the writeup in Clark's, and still show 3/4 tank when full. It is one of those things. Someday I will retire and if I still own this car, that will get fixed.

Try adding oil to about a 1/2 qt. above the full line on the dip-stick. Mine stops bouncing when I due this.

Mine did this even after I replaced my sending unit. My guess is that the design of the sending unit isn't that good, or it's the usual electrical gremlins these cars have. But I imagine it's more of a gauge problem then an actual oil pressure problem and you shouldn't worry about it.

Remember, if it doesn't directly impede the car from rolling, it's not broken...

I had an 89 Eagle Talon that I drove into the ground. My motto was "If it does not directly affect it's ability to stop or go, it does not need to be fixed."

Needless to say I feel a little different about the 951.

Same story here. Brand new sender, still get pressure gauge bounce when warm.

over servicing leads to foam, which can as bad, if not worse, than running low on oil.

i get a little bounce at idle.
