Say WHAT?? $42,500?? Wow, is this guy completely out of his mind. Now for a lesson in auto depreciation... let's say you buy a car for $42,500. 11 years later, uhhh, it's not worth $42,500 anymore.

$20,000 tops. Unreal.

While the price is way out out of line, more than double what it's worth at the top of the market and yes, the guy is out of his mind. The car was mid $50's when new, depending on how it was optioned could be upper $50s based on my 2 968 cabs.

968 MSRP: $39,850 - $51,000
If you paid more you got ripped off!

If you bought one new you got ripped off, IMHO. Used and depreciated, FTW.

Try putting some options on it, I have the window sticker to prove that someone was willing to buy a $1995 cell phone option.
Base price on a 1995 cab was $51,900 before freight or any options.

As far as I'm concerned I hope he gets as much as possible for them. They are RARE cars and I want the prices to stay high, not drop.

Well considering how rare they are, and the fact that they are exotic high-performance Porsches, they are valued pretty damned low. But then look at Deloreans. They aren't much weaker, but they only made them for like 1.5 years and you can get one for the same price as a 968. Similar type of parts-bin car, too.

It doesn't have image associated with it like the 911 does so that will always keep the value from jumping. And the only person who would ever pay more than average price for a 968 is someone looking specifically for a 968, like a Porsche enthusiast or collector. If we won't pay $42.5k, then nobody will.

There are three kinds of sellers, IMO.

1) The Pie In The Sky Guy - thinks he can use a few glowing words, a half gallon of Armor All and a visit to Jiffy Vac to make a killing. Rarely works.

2) The True Believer - asks a premium price for a premium condition car and ignores the market in favor of his own hefty stack of receipts. Offers the car with some reluctance to any willing to pass his test of self-held worth. Works eventually, but only with buyers of like means and priorities.

3) The Mover - neither greedy nor obsessive, offers a car for sale with intention of exchanging it for the market value sum in cash in the shortest period if time. Works every time

I knew it! How did you find out - did you go check out his cars?

Man, He had this insanely sweet white cab at the time I bought my red coupe from him. It had red Club Sport decals, Red painted BBS wheels, and red leather interior. The nicest 968 I've ever seen. He also had another Club Sport clone, but it was in some funky shade of blue I didn't like, and later found out was horizon blue.

I better call him up and see wtf he's doing. And YTF he has a boxster.

I think one of them was bought by a guy in Chicago area who owned a Powerhaus turbo conversion that he totalled in a track event. He used the CS clone to move everything out of his totalled turbo. I can't seem to remember his name, really nice guy. His wife gave the turbo conversaion to him as a gift for their anniversary.

I emailed the seller and confirmed it is my PO.

Yes it was Miles. Actually, I found out it was the same PO selling that car to him, so I contacted Miles and told him about the guy, gave him my positive input and stuff. Actually the PO contacted me later and asked if I could give a good reference on another sale, and I gladly did. He's a great guy.

So if he had 6, I bought one, Miles bought one, I saw the blue one go on craigslist (how did Scott miss that one?!?!), and now he's selling 2 more... that only leaves him 1!
