Royal Purple should not go in your motor. I don't like the idea of mixing solid lubricants in my oil. That's one thing that Royal Purple implements. The idea is the solid lubricants aid the oil, but the reality is that they often fall out of suspension and can build up which will most likely (and has) cause blockage.

Info I found:

" Royal Purple uses a different chemistry than most. They are one of only a handful of marketers using Moly in their oil. Moly is a solid, specifically banned by Cummins, due to excessive valve train wear.

Moly (Molybdenum Disulfide) is a processed mineral that is similar in appearance to graphite. Moly has good lubricating properties when used either by itself (in dry power form or as an additive to oil or other lubricants). Particles of the Moly can come out of suspension and agglomerate. This can actually clog oil filters or oil lines and the rest normally settles in the bottom of the oil pan."

Absolutely, oil and fuel additives are a waste of money and may make your oil less effective. They are all snake oil. Buy a decent quality oil and you'll be fine. And don't worry about your oil pressure being too high! Sooner or later, you will have a real worry to occupy your time, you don't have to make them up. jeez

Use Mobil 1 20w-50 in everything here in FL, pressures read normal. I should imagine they would read higher in cooler climates.

Really? Where do you get M1 20w-50 at? I didn't know they made it.

My bad, 15W-50.

BTW, Mobil 1 does have a 20w-50 but it's marketed as a motorcycle oil.

Really? The same thing my father runs in his Powerstroke DIESEL? Are you sure? Diesel oil? I can't say I've ever heard that but I've been wrong before. Many, many times actually.

i know the dealership here ran Shell Rotella 15w40 - also used for diesels- in all early 44's. I would have to ask Nine44 as he's the one who passed this along to me but i thought i saw it in my manual as well. Ive used rotella in every 44/24 ive had until i started running 20w-50 castrol in my turbo due to track temps.

Interestingly, there are a lot of people that run Rotella 15w40 in their 944s - not to mention other Porsche makes. Search some of the previous oil threads... some of the most interesting were by Doug Hillary (or Hilary, not sure of the spelling) - he works for an independent oil testing lab.

Rotella is known for being used in a lot of big equipment. I now realize I am running the wrong weight. I am using M1 5w-30. I am gonna switch to M1 20-50.

Hi,
I hope you don't object to me posting in your area - concerning lubricants, Porsche has not endorsed (via TSBs) a SAE30 (10w-30 and etc) viscosity lubricant for use in any engine from MY84 until the present (except Cayenne V6 (VW) since 2000. No modern lubricant that is endorsed as ILSAC GF-4 compliant should be used either

There are sound Technical reasons for this

No additves of any sort should be added to engine lubricants regardless of the hype

And yes, Rotella T Multigrade 15w-40 is an excellent product as is the synthetic version called Rotella T Synthetic 5w-40

Regards
