Ruined camshaft spline bolt
Hi there,
A quick canvasing of opinions... I'm in the process of changing belts and seals on my 944 turbo and it seems that the camshaft spline bolt has been ruined by the previous owner...
It's part 19 in the below that I'm talking about...
http://www.pelicanparts.com/PartsLoo...-05-Frame3.htm
I'm thinking that drilling out the head of the bolt will let me remove the gear which in turn will then give me enough space to grip the bolt with a mole brip and remove.
Does that sound like a sensible solution?
Thanks,
Alex

Just drill it out, once you have the pulley out you'll be able to just twist it out with your fingers.
It's pretty common that that bolt strips, it's not a big deal.
Dal.

what dal said, as soon as that pull is off, thats all the stress holding the bolt so tight, drill off head pull off cam gear (if you can... i had an issue and ruined a camshaft...should be rare occurance) and then twist out bolt

Don't waste your time with a drill. A drill will take you a while.
Get a grinder and destroy that thing. You can have it off in a one minute.

Drill it out. Use a drill bit that is slightly larger than the shank of the bolt. Once the head pops off, you will be able to remove the other parts without any damage (can't say that the grinder method will allow that.)

I just remembered the 8v 944 has a different arrangement for that bolt. It looks like this:
which can't be hit with a grinder, so you gotta drill it. It will take a while. That bolt is hardened, so don't even bother with a cheap drill bit, go spend like $15 on a nice cobalt or something.
The picture I posted before was of a 16v cam bolt (remnant).

Haha! I never get tired of that picture. However, that collar is $50 new, so it would be up to you. Drill the head of the bolt out and do not skimp on the good drill bits. Keep lots of lube ( WD-40) handy for the drill bit.
