I just bought the 944 which was the subject of much fanfare (mostly over its aftermarket Fikse FM10 wheels) in this thread:

The day of the PPI itself was great fun. I had the car, pre-purchase, for about 24 hours. This included 1.5 hours in stop and go traffic due to a fatality up ahead. I was relieved it didn't overheat. It drove well and, even without any usable a/c in Honolulu sun, I still wanted the car. I'll tell you, every white sedan looked like a cop car that day!

I gave the seller his asking price in cash after the PPI revealed no major pitfalls, a straight frame, a new clutch, and decent shadetree maintenance. PPI-er concluded that the brakes were still close to 100%. The car's history is totally unknown, except that (1) the PPI mechanic's computer told him his shop had coincidentally done an a/c estimate for the car last year (owner declined), and (2) CARFAX says it's MVA-free. We've scheduled timing belt work, replacement of fluids and some hoses and lines. Motor mounts will be done at sometime in the future as will a R134 conversion. There are some cosmetic things in the interior I plan to do myself

I'm more of a check writer than a wrencher, but this community has been so helpful and gotten me this far with confidence, and I'm looking forward to being a part of it as an owner. Sorry for the long post, and attached, hopefully, are some pics.

Man, it's been a while since I last drove a red (as in Really Red) car. Twenty five years ago, in high school. That one was a fire engine red 1965 Mustang hardtop with a four barrel, and I always felt like every cop was out looking for me. I feel the same way in this new toy.

The best part so far is that my 3 year old associates my Porsche with Lightning McQueen. He loves it.

That's good advice. My mechanic told me he's aware of two instances of timing belts going to sh*t at idle, so driving it hard may not even be the factor. Although I'm not going to let it sit for the entire week before I bring it in to his shop, I realize that every short hop I take before then is a gamble.

Very nice, congrats. The Fikse FM5 or FM10 are my favorite wheels for the 944 and the only wheels I would consider in place of my Fuchs. Again, very nice!

Yes. I wasn't into the poseur look too much. I would've been just as happy with the n/a front end and no rear valence, but it was the best car at the best price.

I'll probably not mod it too much more, as it's plenty fun right now, and throwing more money into it will get me deeper underwater than I want.

On the other hand, maybe I'll start a separate thread on adding a turbo to an n/a or how do you increase hp on a n/a. Just kidding.
