Default Spring Question

It it time to freshen up my suspension. the symptoms: excessive travel up front and my tires started to run the fenders (they didn't before). I think the car is sitting a bit lower but not sure. i was wondering if the springs could be shot or is this primarily a strut problem I am planning on getting the struts revalved. for now I don't want to upgrade to coilovers.

I'd say its the shocks, I highly doubt that a spring under normal use would compress.

There's an old lowrider trick where you take a blowtorch to the spring and it shrinks because of the heat...you havent dont that have you? :-x

springs really dont lose their spring rate but over the years they can start to sag and lose some of their ride height which ay be what has happened. Struts wont really fix this as they merely dampedn the motion of the springs and have nothing to do with ride height, unless you install bilsteins, whic can raise the car slightly due to the high pressure monotube design. A pretty cheap fix would be to buy a ground control coilover kit and install it with similar to stock rates when you get the struts revalved. It will run about $200 and you can have any spring rate you want. Plus side is that if you ever decide to go stiffer they use generic 2.5" race springs and you can pick those up in just about nay rate you want. Plus you could set the ride height int he front wherever you want.
